P.s. that’s a Crazy Taxi Driver story! Another one for the archives!
Hey Kevin! Do you take song requests to cover? Love your videos!!!
Sure! If you have a request I’ll see what I can do!
Awesome!
I really would love to hear “Storm” by Yoshida Brothers.
And something not traditional, would be something like Freak on a leash by Korn!
Tabs from “Storm” would be really nice!
Someone spoke about transcriptions of Yoshida Brothers a while ago… what happened?
Uh thank god a working week with coffee only is coming up …
Storm has the most badass riff ever!!
Wow, congratulations, Anton! It’s beautiful!
I made a tenjin cap (and doukake) for my nagauta out of paper towels and Mod Podge, adapted from following the instructions in Kyle’s book. It was pretty easy, actually - here is the link to the thread. I was so happy to get a doukake and matching tenjin cap that I didn’t have to pay a gazillion dollars for.
Thank you Lorraine!
And wow that’s cool!! But i’m waiting on my beautiful tenjin cap B H free of charge has sent me (which i’m so grateful for!) thans for everything guys
Bachido is so great! New friends all over the world!
If you’ll welcome a small tip - in the meantime, until you get your cap from BH - you could just tape an old sock onto the tenjin to protect it temporarily.
This is the first time I have seen one of “Sailorking”'s shamisen loved and refurbished. It’s a great start to the day, and it’s inspiring me to get up and clean the one that I got!
Make sure you post a video of your shamisen playing. I would really like to see your beautiful new/old shamisen in action.
XOXO Lorraine
Thanks for the tip! I just put a sock on top and it’s actually quite a genius idea !
As soon as i am able to play the song with enough confidence i’ll be SURE to post a video!
still struggling with the hajiki on the middle string though!
Tenjin Beanies I have
OMG!! Those lil tenjin beanies are SOOO cute!!! Want!!! (I don’t knit - who can knit those??)
Thanks for the tip! I just put a sock on top and it’s actually quite a genius idea ! ;)<
my pleasure! My friend Rhea did that until I gave her my plastic one.
As soon as i am able to play the song with enough confidence i’ll be SURE to post a video!
still struggling with the hajiki on the middle string though!<
Ok, don’t wait too long - if you post a video now, someone might catch a bad habit before it settles in! I posted a video in the first week, and several people caught me doing a few things, and it helped me so much! Now I have a terrible habit of dropping my bachi on the bachizuke. No one caught it at first, and now I have to retrain myself not to do it.
練習! 練習! 練習! (renshu)
grin Practice practice practice - and soon those hajiki will just fly out, and you won’t even think about it. XOXO
P.P.S. Thank you for the inspiration! After reading this thread, I spent the morning refurbishing the beat-up old shamibako (box for the shamisen) that I bought on Ebay the other day.
smoothie drink bottles were sold with those beanies on them in various designs for a while it was a promotional / charity action I regret I only bought 2 and should maybe track down the source for more …
Cana on facebook just pointed out cell phone socks as an additional option …
Ohhh, yeah, good idea! (How come I didn’t see the post??, lol)
(after looking …) oh, he must have posted it to your page, not Bachido.
What cute and awesome little socks you have B H ! Those actually look really cool! I’ve just folded my regular sock up, but it still works for now
Thanks for the encouragement Lorraine! Really helps! You know what you’re right i probably should post a video, where i can get all you guys’ help on what i’m doing wrong! (I’m guessing the angle i’m holding it is a bit off!)
Also, where do i learn all the terms? I know the name of the parts, and so far i’ve learnt suri, hajiki and uchi. But i can’t find other places where i can learn the termonology, like bachizuke (What is that? :D)
thanks guys!
Alternating between striking over the center of the body and closer to the neck over the body frame wood is a common striking pattern not only featured in the rokudan tune …
Great video about coffee and bachizuke …
Anton, as soon as you can, buy Kyle’s book. It will get you from being a beginner to beginning intermediate. He explains just about everything you need to know in there.
Ah so bachizuke is the switching between striking the middle and end of the dou?
And thanks for the heads up Lorraine! I’ve been a fool not having purchased the holy bible of shamisen !
i’ll order it right away! (Gotta learn the termanology)
