Purple Heart Shamisen

you mean a third :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, the 5th revision. :stuck_out_tongue: Going to Japan and learning oodles of information put it in it’s 3rd edition. Learning kawahari methods from generous Taichi san and Bachido member Dan Wilson discovering my stupid mistakes put it in it’s 4th edition.

And to think, I was convinced the book was perfect two years ago!

I may put it in later. Having upgraded to 64 bit Windows 7 has made InDesign 2.2 unusable, so I can’t make any changes until I buy new software or put a 32 bit OS on another partition or something.

You should make a digital WIP edition (for those who have already bought the book) so that you can update it as you like and not have to go through the process of reprinting it :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it’s inDesign upgrade time :stuck_out_tongue: cough CS6 cough

WIP? Come on, I used the words OS, bit and partition but don’t think that I actually know much digital jargon. :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually took steps to make the book in a kindle/iBook format, but due to the size of the screen, the two-line per page format would be impossible to view. In the end, I would have to rearrange the pictures and line format 'n everything to make it compatible, which I just don’t have time to do now.

Yeah, upgrading will happen! Actually, a little nervous though. I tried opening the SoJ file in Luke’s 5.5 version, and it wouldn’t open. :-S

WIP = Work In Progress :stuck_out_tongue:

you could set it up like you have the crash courses and rather than embedding video, you can do it with a PDF viewer

You might need to google some ways to make it compatible… perhaps there’s a converter or universal file type…

. . . Oh. :stuck_out_tongue:

OOooooohhhh!!! That’s an awesome idea!!! Luke set up the songs page (for the pay-for courses) so that video, PDFs, audio, or practically anything could be hosted. Thus, the book could technically be hosted there!!

Amazon had an automatic converter, but it wouldn’t work for any version under 4.0, which is why I tried Luke’s version, which didn’t work. I also tried some online converters, but it failed on the two-line pages.

That is actually a great idea. Saves people hacking up their books or needing to find a photocopier in order to use the templates, you can just hit print. Making an interactive book with links to the video would make things much easier and shouldn’t be too difficult considering the videos already exist.

That way, people can start reading it as soon as they pay, instead of waiting 2 weeks

That’s kind of sucky…
Perhaps google has one?

Daniel speaks from experience of running around Sydney on a Sunday afternnon, looking for someone to copy the templates from my book :stuck_out_tongue:

I know this is the completely wrong category for this, but JWplayer (the current video player use use) is INSANELY slow…
I bought the sakura crash course yesterday and was really excited to sit down and go through it, but it took 20 minutes just to load the introduction video :frowning:
I also have pretty damn fast interwebs.

Yeah I also had the same problem. The player was almost completely useless on my laptop, but weirdly worked fine on my iPhone. So I ended up watching the video on my phone and using my laptop to look at the notation.

Yikes!! That did happen to me when I first put up Ringo Bushi (veerrry vverryy slow), but then it sped up an hour (more or less) later. I just tried Sakura and it seemed to play fine (Windows)

Do you both want to try it now? Is it still slow?

I’ve just sent both of your messages to the Boy Genius.

It seems to be speedy at work (epic enterprise internet plan) , but when I go home I’ll test it again and tell you if anything has changed

The tenjin starting to take shape. I took Kyle’s advice and am only doing one half at a time. It makes it much easier as I don’t have to level out two giant faces, I only have to level the mating surfaces of each half which is considerably smaller and therefore more accurate.

PREEEEETY drools

Ooh riiight, this thread is about making shamisen. :stuck_out_tongue:

Excellent Daniel! I’m glad you found it easier as well!

And thanks Robert!

Sakura has sped up a little bit now

Hmm… A little bit? Enough to use?

Basically, will Luke need to call Mr. JW and open a can of whoopass?

lol!

It’s usable, I just need to find some time over the weekend to sit down and get engrossed :stuck_out_tongue:

YAAAAY for weekends :stuck_out_tongue:

Tenjin halves ready to join together.

After a final levelling, the pieces are now clamped and glued and I can shape them together once the glue has dried.

you can really see the subtle pink grain of the wood here
