steampunk shamisen

WOW, if i ever got a chance to go get some i would XD
That’s really good prices for them even if broken, i’d certainly snap up a few for projects !

I saw some sort of dou in an antique shop with a torn skin while I was in Japan. Some smaller variety, not sure which, but it was just the dou. In hindsight I maybe should have picked it up. The steampunk shamisen is pretty cool. I wouldn’t mind seeing some more variation in playable shamisen, though I don’t know that I’d go for any of them personally.

cool, didnt know about steam-punk before

Sid: I’ve seen “steampunk” references/themes before, but I too still don’t really get what it is.

I know that a quick wikipedia search would answer that for me. Is it possible that I’m too lazy to check?

Spinning cog wheels man, spinning cog wheels.

XDD think of it like Victorian science fiction, h.g well’s time machine, captain nemo’s nautilus, anything with airships, metropolis (more dieselpunk but still amazing), etc etc
any help?
o and yes, LOTS of cogs and gears!

While I’m far from an expert, my view of Steampunk is that it wants to honor a rough world where you solve problems with really advanced mechanical contraptions. I think that it is open to a little bit of electricity, but if it does it’s very basic. Things are powered by springs and steam power basically.

Ahh… somehow I thought there was some cult/emo reference involved, from the word “punk”.

So, the ‘punk’ in “steampunk”, what does that mean then?

Forgive my ignorance, for I was just born.

mostly the ‘punk’ is to do with it being a sub-culture and way of life for some people.
An alternative to the consumerism etc nowadays. If you as 300 steampunks what steampunk means you will get 300 different answers XD

An alternative to the consumerism etc nowadays.

But… don’t they still have to buy the cogs? :stuck_out_tongue:

a lot of people scavange from old broken things like clocks and watches and some lucky people make theirs too XD

the steampunk is a retro futurist style
it’s like the time was stopped in the 1850-1900 and all the innovation are like the fashion in that time.

Interesting. Kinda like the current “Hipster” fad (which Grant is involved with). Their fashion seems to be stuck in the 1950~1970s. Am I right?

I do like the steampunk feel (though I’m more of a chrome/blue lights/hovercar kinda guy. :P), but just never knew what it meant.

Boy, I learn a lot of non-shamisen things at Bachido! :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome to Bachido, Leo!
