Hi, I am a Tsugaru-jamisen apprentice from Hungary.
My academic background lacks any formal music education (I am a typical self-taught bedroom guitarist), but I studied Japanology in the University. In the beginning of the 2000’s I was a scholarship student for 1 year in Japan, so I am somewhat familiar with the language and the cultural background.
2 decades later, in the summer of 2022 I was working in Japan for a few months, and I was lucky to have the opportunity to start to learn this wonderful instrument.
By searching on google maps for opportunities to learn music I just accidentally met my teacher, who is a really awesome guy. When he first showed me the raw sound of his instrument, it just blew my mind. It felt like that the soundwaves started to blow me off from the sofa that I was sitting on.
I just fell in love with this instrument, and the musical genre. My first goal is to acquire traditional playing techniques through traditional music.
Since 2023 I am a lucky member of “Szakura együttes”, a Budapest based Traditional Japanese instruments ensemble. We are performing regularly on Japanese culture related events.
