Hello my friends,
I was born in Utah, never a religious person. I learned of japan when I was a little young boy. First off being taught by my father about the samurai. As I grew older, some where in my teens I found history of the shinobi(ninja) That made me love Japan more. back in the early 90s internet was not a priority for my family, at times I could use a computer at the public library. Doing research on my own, I learned of the fashion, and life styles. I had the opportunity for Japanese to be my second language, because of my love for there history and way of life, I was a senior in Highschool then had the opportunity to go to Kyoto through my school for my language class.
While in Japan I learned of the Shakuhachi, and Shamisen while street performers were playing songs with them. I also got into sushi, falling in love with sashimi.
knowing hiragana and katakana, not knowing the other lettering they used I was lost, with out my host family. There I learned a lot of the cost for wonderful crafted shakuhachi and shamisen… turned it into dreams of mine. After coming back to the USA to finishing my high school and graduation. I was about 24 when I moved to Ashland, Oregon where my older brother was graduating from the university. In my late 20s or early 30s I had grandmal seizures. Relearning parts of my passions and dreams, last year 2020, I was able to afford a middle grade shakuhachi, self taught to play. 2021 I finally got the funds to afford a beginner shamisen. Bachido is a beautiful community for me on help and techniques to play.
