The Kamashi technique is integral for the tsugaru style, used in the infamous ‘crescendo’ ending of jonkara pieces. In this course, I will guide you through the standard forms of Kamashi. Afterwards, Kevin will share his original Advanced Shamisen techniques, skills which has made him famous in the shamisen world.
Just went through the course. What can I say? I had the best shamisen session in a long time. It really helps your shamisen confidence to make this sound good.
It would be great if Kevin’s stuff was in the same key but I guess it is too late for that now. For future reference though!
I wonder though, I feel like I get the best sound on ni-no-ito. Maybe because it is the next overtone for both the other strings?
The 0430 one was quite interesting to think about, as opposed to 4300.
Yay!!! I’m glad you liked it, Karl! It’s the first non-song course, so I wasn’t sure how satisfying it’d be.
Doh!! I should have checked!! He filmed his sections last year when he was here. I filmed my sections last week. In hindsight, I should have matched my key to his videos, but because I was already hooked up to the mic 'n all, I lazily assumed, “Nah, I’m sure he’s in C.”
Future reference - double check! (not my forte)
Interesting. I could totally see that. Not only that, you can execute a hajiki on the san no ito AND the ni no ito at the same time. I like doing that.
I intend to film one or two more segments for that course when I return from Japan. Of course, the main course is already up, but a chapter on the multi-string kamashi (the common version of which Kevin expands on) and the ni+san no ito hajiki mentioned above would be a beneficial bonus.
That’s the awesome thing about online courses - you can freely refilm/add things whenever you need. (as opposed to printing DVDs)
a cake . . . and bachido coffee I should enjoy (due to laziness I see on the horizon as for me getting cake) at least the coffee already in the morning tomorrow . . . yeah maybe cake I could not say I mean I am lazy after a hard week of working you know but then again I might get out to get cake too . . . already in the morning
anyway . . . “advanced kamashi” . . . “thanks for watching” . . . “just tip of the iceberg” . . . “we’re going to keep going with this that’s how ya” . . . “okay we got something” . . . and that was just featurued in the course’s bonus clip . . .
In my mind, Kevin is always high. It makes the universe seem like a nicer place. Kind of like a cosmic safety blanket. Don’t worry Kevin, you’re not the only one.
yeah those courses are cool I think I bought 3 so far I also found it a wee bit magical that they are accessible automatically on the bachido site as soon as you finished the paypal payment pages . . . easy going the way it should be and always available to you when you are logged in . . .
