Sorry I am not near you, but just wanted to say my stay at sunshine coast university on business was wonderful. since then totally I visited Australia six times.

I think for most of us when we think of Shamisen in Australia it is Noriko Tadano from Australia’s got talent.
Yes, Noriko is great and also admitted her traditional skill of shamisen in Japan.

Victoria might be a little far, but that seems to be where they are hanging out.
I’m from Australia for sure, but I’m a tad further south than you in sydney. There are a few really cool players, but they’re all with TaikOz and don’t really teach any tsugaru. Some of them teach koto though and they’re always looking for really talented traditional (and not so traditional) musicians. TaikOz are ridiculously cool and you should all check them out!!!
p.s. I’m not affiliated with them, I am just very strongly rooted in the Sydney musical community and love what they’ve done for Japanese instruments down under
