ATTENTION: All VIKINGS (and not-so-vikings)

Yes, it has finally happened!
Bachido is coming TO YOU!

The Situation: As of October 2nd, I am now residing in Linkoping, Sweden, for one month’s time - leaving back to Santa Cruz on November 5th.

What this means to you: If you live in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Scandanavia, or anywhere in Europe at all, you have a chance to come and meet up and receive some Shamisen tutelage!
I’ve been playing about 8 years now and have trained under Kevin Kmetz, Masahiro Nitta, and participated in the Hirosaki/Kanagi tournaments 4 times. So I would love to meet with any of you prospective competitors and help you prepare.
Or we can just jam and go over anything at all!

I’m staying here with Bachido member Anne (recently featured on “Blogcast Episode 28”) so we can all hang out and have a grand time.

Anyway! I just wanted to let anyone around know, and I hope we can take advantage of me being out here in this strange new land!

Lucccccckkkkyyy…

I wanna be a viking. :frowning:

Pics, bro!

Grant!
You Suck! I’ll be arriving in Santa Cruz like a day or two after you leave for Sweden! Oh well. Next time bro! And next year fo’ sho!
Say Hi To Anne! I miss her and you and looking forward to seeing you both again in the near future!
Safe travels, darkness!

Welcome to the rain

I’ll be checking out my schedule for late october and give Anne a call. Don’t want to miss the chance to jam with a badass player in real life!

well according to google maps I can walk to sweden in 185 hours, anyone got a paddle boat?

If you come to Sweden, they give you a Viking Guest Pass. Your dreams are not so far off, Kyle!
Kevin, are you coming in October or November?? I thought you said it you were coming out to California later on? Ugh, I would really hate to miss your visit bro…
Anne is at work right now, but I will be saying a hello for you indeed!

Karl, so far only the ground has been wet. It keeps raining, but never on top of me, haha. That will obviously change.

Liam - that’s the spirit! I think Nitaboh would surely approve of your methods.

Defo, but if I remember the film correctly, he might warn me not to go on a little boat :stuck_out_tongue:

A real viking would cross the ocean using nothing but his braided mustache.

Surely it must have rained on you by now Grant?

Out of curiosity, what is strange here?

Would love to see the first encounter of Vikings and the Californian!!
(^O^)/ Make us and show a Video on Bachido!!!

Oh my god… I need to check if i could come with Viking line or something to Sweden and get a groove on. Just need to check if i have any free weekends or something…

Shieeet… I checked my calender and i’m tied to finnish Civil Service thingie ( like army but the other choice) for all the weeks and for the weekends i’m working in a bar and i’m tied for every weekend until 10.11.2012.

You think you’ll visit Sweden someday again? I’d love to meet with you guys but this year is a hazzle. But the year 2013 i’m all free from kinda everything :stuck_out_tongue:

The Californian (c) Kyoko . . .

Oh no Ortjo! This makes me bummed that you can’t make it!
However, yes! I will be back in Sweden again I am certain.
So if we can’t all meet up in Japan, then we will surely be seeing some of each other next year here up in Scandanavia.
So far we’ve got Karl coming over at the end of October. So if you can work some sort of way to get free, we’ll be hanging around then!

Welcome to Europe Grant!
I blew too much money in London recently so can’t justify another soiree right now!
I’m sure anyone who can make it will benefit greatly from a Shamisen get together.
Is it Gluhwein weather in Sweden yet?

It’s getting there for sure even though I personally can’t stand heated drinks except for coffee and chocolate.

Gluehwein yeah while I have no rush to see christmas decoration I am looking forward to the gluehwein season - Schilcher based gluehwein is my favorite that is a strong local rose wine . . . chocolate with cognac or rum is an at home favorite - usually don’t like anything in my coffee though . . . wheather in austria is getting there but still quite nice bearable without such drinks . . .

Yes, a nice hot steamy mug of spicy Gluhwein when the snow is on the ground outside
I do like the occasional Irish coffee with a shot of whisky too though!
I’ll have to see if I can get Schilcher from the Gall & Gall…

Sounds great Grant (great grant lol) definitely gonna meet up with you guys next year ASAP.
My shamisen fluency has dropped a little though after we moved in a flat… Although we own the apartment so we can’t be kicked out but still i just don’t dare play shamisen that much around here.
But next year when i’m all free i can play at mornings when ppl are at work and after i’ve “perfected” some of the songs i’m gonna go busking. I was supposed to go busking this year but yeah as i said this year is a hazzle

Yeah right irish coffee and also coffee along with a jack daniels on the side I guess I was unprecise as for describing my tastes . . .

Schilcher I think it’s local or at least they grow it locally a lot in the styria region of austria it is a rather down to earth fresh and a bit rough tasting wine although “Uhudler” would be the true rough one it even contains some of that alcohol that is not so good for your eyes . . . and my parents yet in another state of austria called “burgenland” grow it outside or actually their landlord they moved away from our original snowy home in Lungau (great ski and snowboarding resorts) and rented a house in the middle of a wineyard hill when they started their retirement

(sorry for the off topic)
