Bachi making: resin casting; layered sheets

This might be from someone who is a Bachido member. I bumped into this online, read it and thought it was interesting. " Bachi Casting
What follows is a description of my attempts at jiuta bachi casting and customization using RTV silicone in a two-part mold with clear epoxy resin as the casting material."

I probably wouldn’t try casting, but I have thought about (just an idea for now) epoxy-gluing Delrin/acetal and/or other thin sheets then sanding to shape. Something like these very neat custom guitar picks (by Pick Punch), layering colors or adding graphics or writing. Probably not using polycarbonate or Lexan, since I like Delrin, and maybe Ultem for sections that need stiffness/low flex. Anyways, take a look at these neat guitar picks just for fun.

I’ve made a bachi by cutting from solid sheet of hdpe, and they have been ok. The latest bachi I made by cutting a hardwood core and then laminating fake bekku sheet to each side. I’ll take a picture of it and post it here if you like.https://imgur.com/a/aquVN

Scott, the fake tortoise bachi looks great! impressive. I won’t try making bachi until I get the right sander (I love tools!). I’ve been remodeling and I can say I love my comfort grip, flex Titanium spackling knife more than the bachi I’ve tried. You and others who have made their own inspire me to try too.

Sweet!

Hey Scott,
Nice bachi. Where did you source the faux shell material? Is it very flexible?
Cheers,
Neil

My friend gave it to me, I think he got it from eBay. I will ask him when I see him tomorrow. It is flexible and easy to glue and polish.
