Bachido App

Is there going to be a bachido app in the future? I do app design as a hobby and would love to see an app for bachido

What do you have in mind? This thought has crossed by me multiple times.
The website has been optimized for mobile browsing, and most of the necessity to have Bachido on-the-go is for the forum I would think.
Do you mean an app that would give easy access to all of the learning center content, etc?
So far the “Shamisen Tuner” app was something I thought seemed like a great idea too.

Pretty much all that would be great

Hey Sebastian!

Very intriguing! Both Masahiro and I are wanting to have an app made. Masahiro’s wanting a “shamisen game”, whereas I think a pitch pipe-like app would be more useful at first.

If there was an app that looked just like this, (including predetermined options for niagari/honchoushi/sansagari) I think it would be very impressive.

Ooooh!!! And with the Bachido Mon in the center!!

This might be more difficult, but you know how with instrument tuner apps, you pluck the instrument into the mic of your smartphone and the app tells you the key you are close to, and how flat/sharp you are from perfect pitch? (that was a long sentence) Well, that would be ultimate if the same thing could be done: The ‘pipe’ of the key you are close to lights up, and a pitch meter in the center of the pipe would show the current pitch.

Again, that might be harder, but just being able to hear the tone of each key would be an epic start. Cheers for starting this discussion. I think it would be beneficial for all shamisen players.

Oh, come on. Yet another chromatic tuner?
But I wonder what a shamisen game would look like? Shamisen Hero?

Doh! Chromatic tuner! That’s the word I was looking for! :stuck_out_tongue: Meh, I figure it’d be an easy first start.

Masahiro’s idea was a little vague, but I think it was on the lines of a Shamisen Hero sort of thing.

Someone posted a video of an iPad app recently - half of the screen was the dou and the other half was the sao and it could be played like a shamisen. That looked fun. Of course, it’s already been made.

An edutainment game would be the most awesome. Perhaps a fun way to learn new pieces or such.

Well, easy if you’re familiar with iOS app development and understand Fourier transform

A shamisen game sounds cool but I’m not sure it would be all that useful (considering I beat guitar hero 1,000,000 times over and I still can’t play a real guitar).

I like the idea of a tuner feature and access to the forum and useful material.

Very true. What if ‘shamisen hero’ was done in such a way where it had all the number positions on the sao and the player you had to play along? At least that way new pieces could be learned.

Or… there is a tuner. :stuck_out_tongue: At least it would get the ball rolling.

Any ideas, KH?

I think ‘shamisen hero’ combined with tuner could be interesting and useful in learning. We’re talking about matching real sound to positions on screen, right?

If you’re hinting to me to program it - it is not possible. At least nearest half a year. Until then however if some enthusiast decides to make an attempt, probably I could help a bit.

Well, ‘real sound’ as in, ‘real sounding sound coming from a realistic shamisen on the screen’? Or playing your shamisen along with the app? If it’s the former, than it could really be taken on the go, and applicable for those who don’t have a shamisen yet.

Cool cool. Hey, group project!

It would be nice if the “Shamisen Hero/Tuner” app works for a iPhone or other smart phone since some people (like me) don’t have a tablet to use one on.

Unfortunately I can’t imagine trying to play a shamisen on a screen that only measures a few inches across lol

I would personally like to see an app that randomizes sounds a shamisen can make into music or a music sheet/ both

I have an app called “Cleartune” that reads the pitches of everything around it - I mean, literally, it can even hear the pitches of people talking. - it’s an AMAZING tuner, much better than anything else I’ve tried. Couldn’t that technology be applied to a “Rock Band” type app?

Hey Sebastian,

Do you do iOS or android (or both)? I’ve done android development myself and a bachido app sounds like a fantastic summer project and I could probably assemble some of my compsci peeps and possibly produce something for Bachido if you’d like to participate (with Kyle’s permission of course).
