Special day in Santa Cruz! The yearly celebration of Japanese culture was upon us, and Grant and I are there to represent the baddass-est of the Japanese instruments, tsugaru shamisen! (quote from Bachido member)
Wonder twin powers activate!
That was really cool, guys. The outfits really brought it all together. My sensei had me give my first performance at a restaurant last night and everything that could have gone wrong did. Paralyzing stage-fright and a broken string. Hopefully someday I can be half as together as you guys.
The thread title is wrong, by the way.
Awesome guys!! Really great work! Kita no hibiki sounded superb ! Proud of you guys ! Yeah! And the 7/8 stuff !
Totally Rockin !
Man! Keep that flame alive out there ! ¥&@/ :-!!! YYEeeahhhh!
Woooo!
I agree. Impressive performance.
I always wondered what do those headbands and outfit say.
So, uh, how about that dude in the black, huh?
Thanks guys! Kev, I thought thought you’d appreciate that little homage to you bro ;).
The guy in black is a paid actor; I thought it would help.
Eric: Thanks! Wow! Sounds like your first performance was significantly more epic!
Thanks for telling me about the thread title. Fixed.
Kevin! A lot of people were asking about you. Just keeping the tradition alive!
KH: I’m pretty sure the kanji on the happi coat is “Matsuri”, which means festival. I’m not sure what the kanji are on Grant’s headband though.
Awesome profile pic, btw.
Grant, he was paid?? I thought he was truly emotionally steamrolled by our magical performance. Leave it to you to help keep my ego intact after forgetting those business cards!
Nice performance! Too bad we couldn’t hear the new bloodwood shamisen.
Well, the second kanji was consistently covered up by that stylish coif, but my guess is the combo was probably 必勝 (hisshou), meaning something like “certain victory.”
Nice performance! Too bad we couldn’t hear the new bloodwood shamisen.
Bloodwood shamisen?
The shamisen that Kyle has been working on is made out of bloodwood, and looks quite pretty in my opinion.
Indeed! I could hear that it was the old shamisen in this clip because it has inferior presence and clarity compared to the new shamisen.
cool clothing and performance . . .
nice one guys…kita no hibiki will be a classic in years to come, then we can all moan about how we know it from way back in the day
Ah yeah. I actually received the bachigawa that morning (didn’t want to bash away at the skin without a protector), so I could’ve played it. It was quite warm and sunny, so I kind of had an irrational fear about the skin breaking, so I decided to leave it at home. Anywho, the completion of the bloodwood shamisen is a topic in of itself, and so would be good to have as a separate blogcast anyway.
I will say, droooooool it sounds like a dream.
On that note, I think it’s time for a shamisen break!
Wow, man. That had to be a show stoppah! Kyle & Grant (as The Wonder Twins?) sounding Oooawwsummm!
It was tons of fun! In all humbleness, faces were melted.
