Bachido Blogcast E16

After spending a whole week of tirelessly guarding Grant’s jika tabi and reflecting on the past, it’s time to finally try out the Bloodwood shamisen and decide whether or not it’s the most glorious thing I’ve ever made in my life!

It a very nice learning experience to see all of your shamisen, all of your shamisen sound very deep and nice and loud.
save the oily one i think it could due with a tighter skin… but i’d hafta disagree with your neighbors… i think the last one had the best sound ^^
haha <3

“Epic disappointment!” … I LOL’d

Thank you for guarding my tabi Kyle! I would trust no one else with the noble task.

We sure have come a long way bro… especially you! Look at all that bad-assery in one spot!

oh man sounds (and looks) great and I don’t mean the ebay one and yes interesting to see and hear them all cool episode . . .

PS: The Bloodwood Shamisen sounds legit, bro.

Great video Kyle! Quite a few funny moments

Would be really cool to hear it IRL as well, and compare it to my own. Regarding that, have you compared it with a top-of-the-line kouki shamisen? If yours sound better it would be the ultimate victory!

The bloodwood shamisen is hot. I hope I can be as cool as you someday.

You Nailed It! Also, thanks for comparing them all side by side it was quite interesting.

Great sounding Shamisen : )
Like this background for Blogcast…
Shamisen looked good all lined up : )

 would like to see inside your mitsuori neck if possible please ^.^

I actually liked the sound of every one of those shamisen. First one’s sound was epic :DD
But yeah your bloodwood shamisen sounds awesome and looks like a pro made it  Nice work m8

Hi Kyle,
I was wondering which shamisen is the one you built while writing your book?
And which one you built to check your book?
All the epic Shamisen make me want to build one myself… : )

One day I will make one as well. It seems like a nice project to create a small one the day I have little kids.

Thank you, thank you everyone!

Eric, you’re an active Bachido member! You already are!

That’s a picture of it before lacquering. When I found that the joints of the cracks weren’t as flush as I wanted, I impatiently lacquered it all together. :-S

For making the first edition, I used pictures from building the second shamisen. Then, I “proofread” the instructions and reshot all the pictures by making the third.

After updating the book with the stuff I learned in Japan in 2010, I made the ipe shamisen.

To note, the Bloodwood shamisen was made using the instructions in the book. The only thing needing to update is the kawahari section.

Yay-verily!

oooo! its very very pretty, is that a metal end? (the bit you stick the neo on) it looks very brass’y
I do approve of it though
^.^

Don’t worry Cana! There’s no obligation to know the Japanese names for the parts.

Great episode! Especially the last three seconds.

Haha! Thanks man! You’ll enjoy the last three seconds of this week’s episode as well, I’m sure. See you in a few days!

Ah yes… See ya in a few days.

Oh, the epicness. That bloodwood shami sounds creeeeammmy!

Ain’t it though! :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, I found out that the skin is still a bit loose (after comparing it with Masahiro’s shamisen). It’s simply a matter of tightening it more. Alas, my fear of breaking the skin has held me back.

I still like the sound, but I may try kawahari again before making the instruction videos. However, the first project is making the product videos for the Bachido store.
