Can you tell me the name of the wood?

There are 3 different Shamisens pictured, which Im guessing are all Nagauta.
Hi guys, this is my first post, I would love some help. I’m currently in Japan and keep coming across shamisens at junk shops, and I can’t help it!!!

#3 recently purchased this one because it came with a case, $30
the wood is a light brown/faint reddish.

thank you Angus, I’ve seen that page, just wanted your expert opinions, since I’ve read that the wood can be colored red, etc. :slight_smile:

I definetely would have gone for the first one which seems kouki to me.

Holy crap those are cheap. Even if they don’t play well at all, I might have still bought them, if only so that I could do a quick switcheroo and smash a shamisen at the end of a performance.

Aw shoot I didn’t buy the first one bc it had both skins ripped lol. I will keep my eyes peeled next time.
