Crash Course Results

This is my formal introduction to the group, so, hi.
I completed the Crash Course a couple weeks ago and learned Kuroishi Yosare Bushi. (Thanks, Kyle!) In this clip you will see…

-My frightfull early morning hair (yikes!).
-A crappy camera mic making it sound like I’m beating the s*** outta my poor shamisen. (I’m not.)
-A Nagauta shamisen forced to do the work of a Tsugaru shamisen. (Sorry.)
-A whole lotta clams. (That means “mistakes” for any non-guitarists out there.)

But, all-in-all, for a guy who’s been playing less than 2 years, it could be worse.

Hey Chet,

Wow, that sounds really awesome!!! You really have a good sense for the feeling of the song. It sounds good on a nagauta shamisen as well.

I’m happy to see that the crash course has been yielding good results (i.e, people able to play that song).
If there is anything you thought should be changed/expanded/improved, please let me know. I’m planning to give more courses for more songs using the same format, so I want to make it as good as possible.

Again, great job!

Kyle

Gaijin field trip to the Hirosaki taikai, am I right guys??

Gee! That’s higher than expected praise! Especially coming from the closest thing I have to a teacher. Thank you!
But I borrowed heavily from Sato Michihiro for the feel. Can’t go wrong there. Guess that makes him my teacher too.

As for my sound, I owe a lot to Kunshiken on eBay. He sells some nice bridges and I bought a pretty unique one that gives high-end Naguatas a sort of Tsugaru-like “bite.” At least in my case anyway.

Off hand, I can’t think of anything that would improve the crash course. It seems to be working.

Nice to have you here with us Chet. I love the intensity of your playing in the video. you play Kuroishi Yosare bushi with Great focus and expression!
Keep it up!
