double length ichi no ito- cut?

hey bachido

im looking to restring my shamisen and the string i received is 2x the length it should be. Do i just cut it in half so that I get 2 spares out of it? if so, how would one recommend cutting it to avoid damaging the string?

i would recommend wire cutters, and maybe you could heat the end that is frayed? If you did so (don’t really know if I’m right - Kyle?) I would also have the frayed end be the end tied to the neo.

In my opinion just use a pair of scissors that aren’t too dull. I did this and have had no problem.

ah ok, wasnt sure if theyd fray like other instrument strings or not. case closed, thanks all
