Doukake

Hey guys,

Im looking for some info. I recently acquired a new doukake for my beginner shamisen. But the doukake does not have any holes to thread through some a thong to keep it attached to the dou. Am I supposed to make my own holes using some sort of tool, or is there another method to keep it on the dou that I can’t seem to grasp?
Further info - it seems to be made of paper with a cloth brocade over the top of the paper.

Hi Bobbie,
Yes, you need to make the holes yourself. Using any tool, such as a braddle, will be suitable, and push through from the top (material side), so any bits left sticking out are underneath and therefore unseen.

i use a sharp
leather punch for the ones I make. seems to make a nice clean hole.
