Should I etch or lacquer or both ?

Thanks for ur answers

I just laquered mine with a tung oil glossy finish and it came out incredible looking. I’m actually going to be sad to have to put a doukake on it!
Hi Phil!
May I ask, what do you mean by etching? engraving something?
Lorraine, that grain and your lacquering job is more beautiful than most doukake. I’d venture to suggest not using a doukake and seeing how it goes!
Thank you Kyle! Okay, I’ll try it!
Thank you Lorraine for the impressions !!! That glossy finish looks awesome !
I decided to use an oil based violin lacquer from a local violin building store.
Kyle, I used the google translater for “etching”. There are other translations like: wood “staining” or “bating”. Now I know that it is uncommon for instruments to be “bated”
When my shamisen is finished with the oil lacquer I’ll post a photo here.
Here’s the picture I promised
That came out amazing!
