First Bachido (or MoS?) CD!

Jamie the Irish song you sent there reminded me of the colonization era. There should be plenty of songs to pick from there to get an American part. This song is made for the pirates of the caribbean but it’s pretty true to the old music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr0-JBtF1fg

Listened to the Colonization (old strategy game) soundtrack and the song Shady Grove is in it. I think it’s really great. You should do it for the toneway show Kyle & Luke btw

It’s an 18th century American song.

Karl: I actually never knew that the song was the tetris theme (I guess I always played it with the sound muted. ). However, it is still a traditional song, and people who’ve only known it as the tetris song might find it interesting to know where it comes from.
(If you have a better suggestion for a Russian folk song though, please share! )

10-4 on the African song.

Oh snap!! I actually suggested Shady Grove to Kevin in a PM two days ago!! Yeah, I think that would be awesome!!

How can you play Tetris without the sound!??! That’s like half the game right there! Endless puzzle solving with an endless epic tune.

Let’s hope Kevin likes it then! I see that he wants some more songs with more notes, like the greek song which I think was great. Unfortunately I don’t know many songs that are traditional and old that sound like that.

The only russian song that I like to listen to is not a military song per se according to a friend, but it is sung by the red army choir here:

Heheh, well, maybe 'cause I last played it when I was 10 in Windows 3.1 (without speakers), and lost interest after a minute.

Yeah. I started learning the greek song. It’s awesome. From our understanding of old time mountain music (shady grove, for example), I think traditional folk songs tend to have simpler melodies so everyone in the tribe/community would be able to play them.

Katusha is a nice melody too.
Damn, the tetris theme/folk song has been stuck in my head all day!

Here’s a couple of classic annoying songs to alternate between:

And finally the classic, that is the only song that I’ve been asked to play on my shamisen. And it’s pretty easy too

Have you thought of adapting any mongolian songs so Kyle could do some throat singing

Pppppffff!!! Badgerbadgerbadgerbadger… I must say, I totally didn’t see that coming. Didn’t even think it was possible to upload a 10 hour thing to youtube! Man, if we recorded that, we could have like a ten volume CD set of just one song!!! :stuck_out_tongue: Better load up on espresso before hitting the recording studio.

Someone from Russia bought Shamisen of Japan this week. I think I’ll send her an email now, asking if she knows any good local folk songs.

Jude: Actually, we’re are! Masahiro seemed interested in recording Dyngyldai, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMcH08PzZu0) and possibly adding Taiko.

Wow that´s amazing! I was just listening to Dyngyldai this morning, done by a great band called Hanggai.
It will be great with taiko to give it a good beat.
I´m looking forward to it

Haha! Awesome timing!

I like their song Wuji.

Hey all! So I heard back from our Bachido member in Russia about good folk songs that don’t give the feeling of arranging falling blocks into a 2D container.

Here are two traditional Russian folk songs. Personally, I like both of them. The second one has a fun speed, though I like the mood of the first one. What do you guys think?

The second song will be much more interesting to listen to due to that it changes so much. That dynamic will fit great with 3 shamisens because when you speed up and add more layers, people are gonna bang their heads.

I dunno if it’s possible to do Portuguese fado without Portuguese guitars, but hey, you guys like challenges, right? Plus, you kinda need a down-tempo song too, eh?

Karl: 10-4. Any opportunities for head banging should be pursued! Kevin, sounds good?

Jamie: Nice! Love the melody for that song. I think because the tone of steel strings is obviously not the same as silk/nylon, it wouldn’t sound the same. But I think we’d definitely be able to do the song justice! Anywho, I’m for it.

Oh!! What do you all think about having a Peruvian/Andean/etc folk song? Personally, I am a huge fan of panflute and the melodies that go with it.

this would be so epic!.. Few shamisens and this
it’s so beautiful but i don’t know how well it would work with shamisen

Andean music, yes, yes!
I don’t know if Misirlou would be too familiar but the cool thing about it is it is an actual Greek folk tune. So it’d be kind of a two-fer.

good one ortjo I also always liked the piano movie and score . . .

or that almost cheesy yiruma one . . .

damn it I thought about austrian folk songs only to realize I don’t know anything or at least not anything by name which makes things hard to find

I can really see the second Russian folk song being arranged by Kevin. It sounds right up his alley, hehe.

Hey Ortjo, do you know the story/origin of Comptine D’un Autre Ete? I really like it.

Those are some nice scores, Bernhard. I think shamisen would sound really nice with that. I gotta say, Hoamweh noch B.A sounds like country!

I’m gonna have a phone chat with Kevin today or tomorrow. It’s about a month until recording time, so we need to finally nail down the list.

Oh yeah!!!

Thanks for all these great ideas everyone!
