first mistake (skinning)

So I got two calf skins from the folk music center in claremont (heads up).

But my mistake was a moment of stupidity. I was comparing skins and just for curiosity I started picking at the broken top skin too see how hard it was gonna be to pull. Surprisingly the edge I messed with peeled off easily. The back is also broken but not as bad and while I was planning to reskin it eventually…I wasnt going to… well I didnt stop at just testing. I kept peeling the top off with ease til I got to a second corner… pop. I didnt have the rope holding the dou together…why would I, I wasnt planning on pulling it.

I will now be doing both top and bottom skins…yeah im an idiot.

Update. Reglued the dou last night. Not a major problem and the glue and skin cleanup was much easier with the dou in four parts…

Constructed my jig for stretching…messed up on one side of the tines by not dividing correctly. About halfway through I realized the error and freehanded a solution… that side looks like heck but it should work. My tarp clamps arrive tomorrow.
