Boy am I in a bad mood…
We had a family emergency here,
So I left in a hurry…
I left my Shamisen out and when I came back
my Koma and San-No-Ito string were broken.
As usual the kids know nothing…
Anyhow, I was wanting to get some information
About ordering from The Bachido Store…
My Koma looks to be the same height as the
Short Koma template in Kyle’s book but my Shamisen
is not Tsugaru, I think I have a Gidayu style Shamisen but am wondering if
Tsugaru parts and strings will fit a smaller Shamisen and still sound good…
Pretty sure the different Shamisen use different shaped koma. Which one is used for Gidayu, by the way?
Gidayu uses a very tall koma (at least twice as high as tsugaru) that has lead weights in the base where it touches the skin. I am pretty sure the strings are thicker than the ones used in tsugaru, too, but I may just be remembering that wrong.
Hmmm…
It looks like a Gidayu style in the Shamisen type section,
but what you are saying does not describe my Shamisen at all…
I wonder what kind of Shamisen I have…
The old koma is bamboo? and only 5mm high and 9mm between the strings.
There are no weights… Hmm…
I bought it used on ebay, since it sounded like a good deal,
But it seems to be a crazy mixture of parts…
Hopefully, I can get it playable again, soon…
Oh no!! Sorry to hear that, Marvin.
As Aaron said, Gidayu uses larger koma, which would be harder to play tsugaru style, I think. If you liked the sound and feel (height) of your koma that broke, I would recommend getting the same one.
