hello

hello all,

I`ve been lurking here for a while now and having bothered Kevin with a few emails, figure perhaps I should say hello.

Im from the uk/israel and am currently (at least until the end of july) teaching English as an ALT in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Unfortunately I have to leave, and since Im swamped with packing this seemed like the perfect time to procrastinate and write an intro message.

Ive been learning to play Tsugaru Shamisen for almost a year an a half. Im absolutely loving it, and hopefully in august i`m going to get to travel to Aomori to experience some Shamisen on its home turf, maybe even try to get a lesson in.

as part of more procrastination i wanted to make a progress video to add to the growing collection but i ran out of time and its a bit late to annoy the neighbours, so ill put this video up which has i think the fewest mistakes out of all of them.

Looking forward to well…more lurking on here i guess. Its a really lovely community and super handy, especially since Im going to be teacherless pretty soon.

Cheers

Can you come to Nagoya taikai on the way to Aomori? It is going to be held on July 29th. Our favorite Ki Ki are taking part as a duo!
Naogoya is just in between Yamaguchi and Aomori, right?
Good luck on your Ito!

Welcome! It’s nice to see more shamisen players emerge and post videos of themselves. Each time I see a new shamisen video I get more inspired to play!

hiii welcome
sounds like you’re up there with the ‘big boys and girls’ set on here XD

hello

Welcome!

Fantastic playing! Well now we have met not just through mail but video as well. Agree with Karl it is awesome that more people are doing this!
Hope to see more of your performances on video soon!
Did you say you are going to be here in Aomori in August?
Keep in touch!

Really great performance! You’ve got nice timing with your playing, and that is very hard to get on the shamisen!

You should really try and come to Hirosaki in Aomori when the tournaments are being held. It’s an amazing experience in and of itself due to Golden Week, but then also it’s a Shamisen experience you just can’t get anywhere else!

Welcome to Bachido, Shmoolik!

My hats off to you for not only joining in the forum, but presenting a video of your performance! More and more people are doing this, which I’m very pleased to see! It helps give a little personality to the text in the user’s posts.

Whistle Hot and fast playing! It’s only going to get better as you continue! A teacher is very comforting to have, but fear not when you have to leave. Everyone at Bachido is eager to help you progress, and we (speaking for myself, but I’m sure others as well  ) encourage you to find people to play shamisen with. As you know with your teacher, having someone to play with just doubles the enjoyment factor.

Ooh! When you go to Aomori, pop in to Misawa and say hi to Kevin! Take some cool videos if it’s convenient. If you have any adventures in Aomori, we’d certainly love to see.

wow! thank you so much everyone for the warm welcome.

Unfortunately Kyoko, I will not be leaving Yamaguchi Ken until at least the 1st of August, so am going to miss 29th. Shame because I`ve really yet to attend any sort of real shamisen meet.

Karl, you`re videos and posts definitely encouraged me to post my own video. cheers for that. did my first progress video yesterday so hopefully can put it up soon.

thanks for the compliment Amanda but hardly feels like that when you see so many people on here with amazing skills. That song is just a song ive really practised a ton, and even then I still cant play what im supposed to play, it`s just my teacher covers up all my mistakes!

hello Chris and K H! thanks for the greet.

I was indeed hoping to go up to Aomori earlier on Grant, but its just so far away and so expensive! Cheaper for me to go to korea than it is to get to Tokyo, let alone Aomori! (and every single penny is being saved for hopefully moving up past a practice shamisen...Its only really on video that i notice how toy like it sounds, although with the whole workman blaming his tools think I probably just need more skills)

Kevin and Kyle, thanks a bunch. When I came across youre videos online it definitely helped me progress, especially on some of the topics that the language barrier between my teacher and I proved impossible to overcome. thanks for all your hardwork, you must be very tired m(_ _)m Id definitely love to meet up with anyone I can in my final travels in Japan, that would be awesome!

p.s. I have no idea why my fonts keep changing…I think it’s because I’m using a Japanese apostrophe which isn’t really counting as an apostrophe. gommene

That’s the spirit! Looking forward to more footage!

As for the font change, I think Kevin used to have that problem in his posts but I haven’t seen it in a while. Maybe he knows how to prevent it from happening?

No problem, Shmoolik san. Hope someday you come back to Japan and meet us here. Keep being Bachido member and keep improving. I guess you are more talented than your Japanese shamisen teacher.
(~_~;)
Keep this secret, too.

Font changing spontaneously = I have no idea either! Only happens on a Japanese laptop though. When I write from my iPad it never does that .

Front changing happened to me either, and I post only from my iPad. This may happen only when written in Japan??
Sorry no idea.

Looking at the text where it happens it seems your apostrophe theory is legit though

Hi shmoolik, welcome to bachido! Nice playin!

Yup, forum posts are styled with Markdown, where text between two “grave” characters (`) gets styled in monospace (for displaying code and such). :-)

Welcome to Bachido!
