Hirosaki Taikai 2013!

Thank you Kyoko San !

I guess if we do group B we are already to go!

Grant, Anne, Pat, Kev and Masahiro + Kyle?

That’s six so far . Kyle are you comin out? I don’t remember if you’ve said either way.
Anyway everyone is welcome!
All bachido members! Calling All Bachido members !

Everyone is welcome to join us in what will likely be the first performance featuring our little international group at the Shamisen tai Kai’s.

I believe Kita no Hiibiki is the best choice so far for a piece to perform.
Despite Kyle’s concern for players skill level it seems that it would work just fine. So far everyone who is committed will have no problem and anyone wanting to join in has about 7 months from now to work on it.

It seems like if Norm or Gareth wanted to join they would have no problem picking it up.

Oh and If Josh D. Wanted to come up he would have no problem as well!
Josh??

I’m all in for the taikai, both the “single” and group thing!
I know I can get of work, and I’ll be in Japan from middle of April to middle of May.
Plenty of time to play!
I think we can do kita no hibiki, just start practising and have faith in your self.

In a couple of weeks I’ll be hosting a big Bujinkan Taikai in my home town, but after that I’ll start looking at some travel plans for next spring!
I’m already excited! I so would like to make a road trip from Tokyo up to the taikai! That would be awesome!

I’ll be back!

Cana, I once told you the Taikai is early March and that was a mistake, sorry. It was on early May this year, so it is likely to be around then next year.
Japanese calendar shows each month, 1gatsu, 2gatsu 3gatsu… So
We often mix up March and May!!! (>_

I will try my best, basically there are talks of a bonus at work so if I get one (a big one lol) I will see if it’s possible to come along, I really want to, it’s just so damn expensive. Also I’ve got RSI so it’s gonna be a few months before I even pick up the Shamisen again… if at all. I wish I could quit my job because I just have to type all day and sit at a computer. When would I need to decide by???

Liam,

Thanks so much for considering coming out! Man! That would be too cool if we had mr. Morgan himself joining us! No pressure of course but just sayin if you do make it out here, that would be awesome!

Well you got about a good five months to decide but in case you think you might do it the piece Kita no Hibiki is pretty easy to find on YouTube and the score is in Kyle’s book Shamisen of Japan.

Also if you have Skype I’d be more than happy to meet with you to go over parts etc.

What exactly is RSI again? Is that when your wrist cramps from typing too much ? Sorry I’m not sure exactly what that is. But sorry to hear either way. Hope whatever it is it’s something you can overcome !

Bachi On,

K

It would be wonderful to play together with Liam!!!
I also am going forward persuading my family saying it is such a great chance for me to play in a wonderful international group.

It is getting more and more realistic and my chance to join in is getting higher!!!

Kyoko San! Great to hear! Please contact me if you have any questions about Kita no Hibiki. I am more than happy to help you learn some parts to play in the group! Thanks for thinking of us and to express the chance to join in! This is Great! So far the group is growing little by little! わくわく!

Thank you so much for saying so, Kevin san!!! I am very very glad to hear that! 超うれしいです(^O^)/
When I need your help, let me ask. … Well, which one of the two parts for Kita no hibiki should I practice mainly?
Right now my shamisen is at a store in Nagoya for kawahari as I broke the instrument skin. It is coming back to me in a week, then I want to practice right away.

Kevin ,

It just means repetitive strain injury, I think my tendons are inflamed. About 6 weeks ago my middle finger on my right hand was painful and tingled when I flexed it, I stopped playing and thats gone away but now there is a dull ache sometimes so I’m still taking more time off (especially shamisen). I have read alot about it (as the doctor was useless) and I am hoping that if I improve my overall health and strength it won’t be a problem. It’s guttin BUT I gotta stay positive.

I went to the dentist this morning so now my money situation sucks even more but I will try my best

As for Kita No Hibiki, I used to listen to it about 10 times a day before I even had a shamisen, I have kyles book and I can play most of it already, just not at full speed, would definately need help over skype though as I have never played shamisen with anyone else.

Yeah Kyoko!!! It’ll happen sooner or later

Liam, sorry for your finger trouble. As far as I understand, your fingers are suffering from Kennshouenn (腱鞘炎)in Japanese, and you just have to wait for them to cure naturally. Guess it is because of too much Shamisen practice or working on keyboard.
Look forward to seeing you at Hirosaki Taikai!

Liam,
Send me a PM whenever you think you might want to Skype and I’ll send my name and a good time to meet.

Kyoko San,

Thanks ね! Well both parts of Kita no Hibiki are kinda of same level so please choose which one is easiest and more natural for you !

Arigatou gozaimasu!

Kevin: Will there be a “support”/base part for those who want a simpler version to play along side with?

Certainly! Shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
Seems just omitting some notes and putting accents on the more complicated runs while the other players handle the more shreddy notey parts.
And this kind of thing can be adjusted to each player as well. I think.

I think a really simple version (and perhaps an intermediate version as well) should be developed really early. I think we’re only gonna have a day or two for us all to practice before hand, so I think it would be best if we’re all prepared and confident beforehand.

Especially if we’re doing it at the usual speed.

Ka~rl… :stuck_out_tongue:

Good point. I’m already on it somewhat as I can more or less mentally conceive of how to go about it. Just have to sit down with/(Skype) anyone who might need the simpler version and go over it step by step. Maybe we can make a lil vid for that too!
And post mr. Score etc.

Let’s definitely put on the November To-Do list.

Kevin - will do

Yeah I think some of the players doing a simplified version will lead to more emphasis on the important/dramatic parts.

eventho i wont be coming to hirosaki next year i would like to tackle the kita no hibiki song with you guys too… perhaps i could join your online sessions as well??? well i was just wondering what part should i start with? 1 or 2?? i guess i should learn both to fully understand the piece… what part should i learn first???

laa la laa la laa la laa la naa ga ree monooo
laa la laa la laaa la laaala naagaareemonoo

Great! (Just wanted to get honorable 102nd position(^_^;)
Can we be in Guinness book?

Woot!! 103!

Not to spoil the surprise guys (particularly Karl and Kevin), but thanks to Luke, this problem will practically be solved in less than 48 hours, methinks.
