Yeah it will be next year. Most likely my girlfried will be joining me and that’s why it will need a lot of planning because then it’ll be a longer trip. It would be a shame to travel to Japan just for shamisen
Nitta san just wrote, saying that Hiroshi Nitta (his father) will be joining us!!!
This sounds like it is going to really be something unique for sure!
I wish the stars and planets could be more in line so that everyone could join this event, if not only just for the chance to meet and make some sham-memories!
On a side note, is there perhaps an official roster up so far to see the current head count for attendees? How many are we looking at so far?
Cool beans, Karl! Can definitely relate to that. I like having several different reasons to go, makes it a broad experience.
Josh! Currently, we’ve got 14 people checked in (including myself, Masahiro, et all), and potentially 6 more attending. Gustavo from Brazil, Tom Monda from Thank You Scientist (http://thankyouscientist.bandcamp.com/), and others. More deets to come!
On an semi-related note -
Hey bros!
Just heard from Masahiro regarding two problems with the Kanagi taikai.
1.弘前の団体出る人は 金木のC級は出れません
For the people entering the group division in Hirosaki- they won’t be able to enter C class Indiv. division in Kanagi.
2.金木の団体出るなら 弘前の個人C級と個人B級と個人A級に出れません
For the people entering the group division in Kanagi, they won’t be able to enter any of the indiv. divisions in Hirosaki.
Basically, there are a few folks who want to enter the indiv. division as well, so I’m inclined to make a command decision and say that we only enter Hirosaki. That way, everyone can compete in the group division AND the indiv. (for those who want to).
Are we good with this?
Shinji: Aw la~me! Hopefully you can come next year! Or perhaps there is some way you could host a Bachido event in Brazil? (because there is a big Japanese community there, I think, it might be possible)
Yea! I would be awesome! But there arent so many Bachido members here in Brazil.
Anyways, ideas are always awesome and someday it will happen!
Actually, I’m not involved in the Taikais but i would love to help.
So… looks like Kanagi Taikai doesnt accept both divisions right?
What do you guys think?
Do you think it isnt worth going to Kanagi only for group competition?
If you guys dont care much about Both divisions in Hirosaki and only Group in Kanagi, then I see no problems. But its what I said, you guys may think its not worth.
Holy bro!!! Sound the trumpet!!! Sound the trumpet!!!
Nitta san just wrote, saying that Hiroshi Nitta (his father) will be joining us!!!
My friends, this is major epicness!! I don’t think Hiroshi san has gone to the taikai in… well, a lot of years! (Is that correct, Kevin?)
Wow! Thats incredbly awesome! You guys gonna be playing with one of the most prominent players!

Yes’sir - no problems here.
Though I’d like to take this moment for a little learning if that would be alright in this thread?
As I am uninformed and inexperienced with any/all of the taikai (read: n00b - haha) what is the difference or incentive of joining one city’s event vs. another (ex: Hirosaki or Kanagi). Prizes? Prestige? Beautiful scenery? lol…just curious for those out there who might be able to drop some insight. ども!
I hereby direct you to the holy Hirosaki thread where you shall most likely find the truth:
(Kyle you should add this thread to the first post in this thread)
Awww bummer… I was REALLY hoping to go to Kanagi, it looks like it could be alot of fun from the vids I’ve seen… but I agree with Kyle’s plan. We go for the gold!
I too was looking forward to Kanagi but not so much to “play” but more to kick it with the good old Tsugaru Shamisen crowd and just to mingle, chat and maybe catch a few performances etc. I wonder if it is feesable for us all to just swing by Kanagi for “fun” after the Hirosaki shenanigans are over?
Btw… does anyone know the actual date or days of Kanagi?
So, this is the schedule Masahiro has suggested.
青森のスケジュールは
(Aomori schedule)
2日青森集合 練習 宿泊
3日出発 C級 B級 五所川原宿泊
4日団体戦!!宿泊!?帰り
2nd: Meet in Aomori, practice and lodge
3rd: Depart (to the taikai) for the C class and B class individual divisions, lodge at Goshogawara. (Don’t worry, someone other than us will be in charge of directions )
4th: Group preformance!! (plus award ceremony) Lodging? Or return?
The Kanagi taikai is from the 4th to the 5th, so we could check out Kanagi for fun on the 5th, and then return?
I’ll ask Masahiro.
Alright! Heard from Nitta san! He said going to Kanagi on the 5th will be daijoubu.
Hey all!
I just rediscovered an old blogcast (it’s been a while since I’ve seen them) which has a little glimpse of pre-taikai practice at the end. It seemed relevant.
Anyhow, yeah! Check out 5:44 onward! This year will be just like this, except a bajillion times more awesome, and in HD!
AB #23: Subterranean warfare in Santa Cruz (and more) - YouTube!
So this schedule is the same that Anne talked about earlier yes?
Are you allowed to bring other shamisen than the Futozao? I just realized there are a few members on the forum that do not have the tsugaru shamisen yet. Just wanted to ask so that you find that out before everyone travels around the world just to find out they are not allowed to play.
Of course it would be crazy if they had that limit, but you never know…
Oh, that’s actually a good question. I’ve never been to a taikai, but something tells me they will want everyone to be playing tsugaru shamisen. I know some (most?) members of Bachido are playing on other versions due to cost restrictions, so maybe we could arrange rentals for the people who need them.
Heh i actually asked Kyle at some point that if it matters that i have a Nagauta shamisen
Well he said to me that most shouldn’t even notice when we’re playing in a group but some ppl might look at me a bit funny
Hey bros!
Well, most everyone has signed up (and for those who haven’t yet, it’s not too late, there is still time!) and so I think it is now time we work out logistics - where we’ll fly in, where we’ll meet up, what we’ll do afterwards, etc.
For this, I am moving this topic here -
