Josh,
Kita no Hibiki is all over YouTube. It’s fairly easy to memorize by ear . Ill be posting a link to an easier tab version here soon but in the meantime I am willing to bet if you just listen to it like 50,000 times between now and then try to pick up as much of it as you can by ear you’ll have no problem!
Haha, I wish I could. I’ll see what I can do with my free time then.
It’s nice having an official set of notes to study. I spent 3 years trying to learn only from youtube videos when I first bought my shamisen. And once I was lucky enough to discover a teacher and take lessons my ability to actually play songs increased incredibly. For confidence sake as well, the sheet music allows a player to drill quickly.
Well you could uhhh… buy the book from Kyle and support Bachido. It shouldn’t break the bank too much
Yes, Kyle’s book is great! It has a lot of important information on Tsugaru shamisen. And I was very very happy it is 1/10 price of its real value! The book has a full notation of kita no Hibiki and also tell you how you should use your fingers effectively.
When I checked my bankbook, I imaged Kyle’s face and looked like Santa clause(^o^)
Happy Christmas!!!

Well, in terms of support, don’t misunderstand me - I did just invest well more than the price of the book to try out the new Fibersen skin. So excuse me for being a bit stingy with my musical funds!
As for the notated music, I’m really asking if someone is willing to share a copy because I don’t want to buy the book only for one piece. I have notated versions of many other songs I’ve learned. And out of respect for my sensei as well as for my own clarity I’m trying not to adopt too many other “teachers”.
I just want to do this well and as professionally as I can, knowing that the people who appear to play in tournaments (from all the videos on the Internet) are pretty serious looking. I’d like my first taikai appearance to be something i’m proud of.
Haha!! True, investing in FiberSen is like buying many books.
No worries, bro! By investing in Fibersen, you did, and continually doing a great service to Bachido, as it helps get it in the public eye and will hopefully make it cheaper as well (Nitta san has said that with more sales, he would be more able to convince the manufacturer to lower the price). So, I’m very grateful for that.
Not only that, but volunteering to join Team Bachido is also a great service, as you’ll be representing our super-awesome clan! Thus, I’d like you to be able to play it confidently as possible.
So, I will PM the details soon!
So, everyone who has invested in Shamisen of Japan, Fibersen, something from the Bachido Store, or other such good deeds, you’ve all done something to proudly (I think) support Bachido! Let’s give your/ourselves a round of applause!
So Kyle, I understand you mean no problem with the copyright matter: that I send Josh one copy of Kita no Hibiki , right? I can do it right away!
Oh! I actually already it to him this morning, but thank you for volunteering to do so!
HI Kyle , thaks for reply. I’ll remember kita no hibiki. How do you think about costume and rehearsal at this time?
and I have skype. I requested to kevin masaya kmetz now.
my skype name is shamimaster.toshi you can searh by shamaster.
Great! For costume, Nitta and I agree that everyone will wear a Bachido shirt. The thought is that I’ll make special Bachido shirts that have the wearer’s national flag on the front, representing our home countries.
For example, Anne’s shirt will have a Swedish flag, and your shirt will have a Japanese flag!
As for rehearsal, I think the time we’ll all get together is May 1st, so we’ll have a whole day or two to get ready. Thus, let’s make sure we can be as we good as we can now!
Thanks! Can’t wait!
Cool! Shamimaster Toshi San! How is New York? Still in NYC?
For everyone else who is coming to Aomori I like the idea to meet May 1st but if any of you come earlier I will be happy to meet with anyone! I’d personally prefer two or three days to rehearse as a group but I understand it might end up as just one day. Yikes !
Guys, as I won’t be able to go to Hirosaki in May,I am wishing you the biggest luck possible and a glorious victory in name of Bachido!!!
The question is, who is going to film the whole thing? We need footage!
Shinji: Sorry you can’t come, bro! Hopefully there’s a chance you can make it to the Bachido Festival in 2014!
That is a supremely excellent question! That was perhaps the first thing that came into my mind when the idea of forming Team Bachido to play at the taikai - “Who will film it??”
So, there are a few options.
One, I’ll be bringing a Vixea M500 camcorder. However, the battery only lasts an hour, and I’d prefer not to be in charge of filming. :-S (I mean, I will document it blogcast style if I have to, but…)
Two, the lovely Marina (she and her hubby brought me to Florida for the taiko concert last year - http://imgur.com/uz78O ), is planning to come, assuming finances work out. She absolutely doesn’t want to compete (and believe me, I nagged her about it ), but would like to document the event for us (they have an awesome SLR camera and know how to use it). So, if all goes well, she will be there and can help document.
Three, as you have probably expected, Nitta san has told the television stations about Team Bachido’s debut, so there will be much filming done. Now, I wouldn’t think we could use their footage, but Masahiro said that he was wanting to make a video of it all, so perhaps he has plans to get a camera crew, or footage from the TV crew?
Four, Norm Nakamura! I really, really hope that he’ll be able to join us on stage, but some other factors might prevent him from doing so. Just fear of burning down the stage with his awesomeness, I think. Anywho, if he’s not able to join us on stage but can still come, well, I’m sure we’ve all seen this, right?
Needless to say, I would give him free reign of filmage. I don’t think anything more needs to be said.
Soknds like a couple of plans
I dunno if I just missed this before, but since Kita no Hibiki is technically a duet, which part should each of us concentrate on learning? I mean, they only diverge in a few places and ideally we’d know both, but say we wanted to start with one, which one should that be? Should we pick parts? Would you like to delegate parts? How should I part my hair during the taikai?
Jamie,
All hairs should be parted directly in the middle! Haha笑!
Well yes…basically choose whichever part you are familiar and comfortable with but if you can learn both parts that’s always a plus for it allows for last minute orchestration adjustments. You (Jamie Low) are a great player so you will most certainly not be needing this, but for anyone else following this discussion (and in case you missed my other post) here is am example of a simplified version that Kyle and I came up with. . .
Well, I, cough uh, cough, cough, I don’t, wha
…
Ahem.
Are we doing it exactly as in Kyle’s book, then? Should I use that as a base, or are we doing any editing? I assume there’s a limit on time for the taikai. Is the book version within the limit?
