In strong and strike, are they using a capo?

In the naruto ost, strong and strike, i hear some shamisen parts that i really want to play myself. I’ve played the same notes as in the ost, but you can easily hear that they’re using typical techniques, which are not played the same tuning. I mean that their shamisen is either tuned EBE, or has a capo attached.
When the low e is struck there’s no buzzing sound and tuning a shamisen to a that much higher pitch would probably make the strings slip or break (i don’t want to risk breaking a string testing it) I have neither a capo nor anything to use instead so i can’t be sure about anything
Does anybody know what they might’ve done to give the shamisen that key?

One possible explanation is that they have tuned the second string to be in the key. That means that you could tune it to AEA (Niagari) or BEB (Honchoushi), depending on what interval you want. I would recommend BEB in this case as it is a solo where they play higher notes and then you get more notes that you can play.

They don’t have to tune the strings to resonate though, but then you lose the shamisen’s magic.

But then the pitch of the open strings won’t be high enough =/
You can clearly hear that the thin number 3 string, is being played open and with a much higher pitch :s

Hmm i wonder if you’ve come to some conclusions since last posting? i would really be interested in learning this song too  though i need to find shakuhachi player too to really feel this-

I havn’t come to any conclusion :frowning: But i can provide you with some information about the shakuhachi in Strong and Strike.

Finding a shakuhachi player who can play this on a shakuhachi would be nearly impossible i fear =/ it’s played on a 1.6, 7-hole shakuhachi and it’s played by the best shakuhachi player in the world, Kinohachi. (he plays shakuhachi in Naruto osts i’ve found out)
I’ve actually tried contacting shakuhachi makers, asking if they could make this specific shakuhachi, but i havn’t gotten a deal yet.
I’ve tried playing the shakuhachi parts that doesn’t require the extra holes, those parts require extremely challenging embouchure,
But this is only if you want play the exact same as in Strong and Strike

Whow. I Didn’t know that! Thanks for the “warning” Johan
