Hello Bachido friends! It has been so long since I’ve been able to have a gander at all the community stuff going on on Bachido. I’m currently camped (halfway through a 6 month stint) in a beautiful pasture at my friend’s place in SW Alberta. Mostly working with horses but also getting lots of time to practice. I usually manage get a chance to do a bit of internet when I get into town once in a while.
I wanted to pass on that I’m making a big move to a home in the forested mountains of Northern Thailand, about an hour east of Chiang Mai. My big plan is to make a little instrument making studio where I’ll be making, for the most part, Shamisen and Kora and quite likely other instruments that inspiration brings to the fore.
To that end, I’ve put up a little IndieGoGo fundraising thing to help me get there. I’ve got some instruments up as perks and you can get a pretty full idea of what’s inspiring my shift there. This feels so mercenary-istic and all, but if you’d like to have a look, the site is at Music Forest - dondtreebpa | Indiegogo
That done with, it’s a really beautiful, in many ways traditional, 2 story Thai wood house on the edge of a steep hill that I’ll be living in. It’s in a small village called Mae Kampong (Kyle! There’s even coffee trees on the ACTUAL property as well as throughout the village that spreads over 5 km up the mountain). To top it all off, there’s a little stream that runs nearby. If any of you in Bachido-land find yourselves in SE Asia and might like to visit, please get in touch. It’s a little remote and can be a tad tricky to get to but it’s lovely and cool and I’ll have an extra bedroom for guests - though it might take me a few months to actually get beds going so it’ll be floor sleeping for a while!
Really hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the end of the summer.
Cheers and all the best
Cath
Here’s where my current camp is at NE of Pincher Creek on the edge of the Piikani nation:
and this is where I’m heading. You can just see the roof of the house hiding in back through the trees:
Amazing how similar the spirit of the two places are!
