Ive not yet come across this on the forums but I must admit I havent searched hard. But there must have been someone else whos come across this oddity! What THe Flip is this:

Id like to point out this is the frikken スコップ Taikai! He:s not alone! theres tons of other videos of people doing this, and look at how many people are in the crowd near the end of the video! genius!

Ive been humbled and I think we can all agree, they have shown us the way. all this group struggle to try and get a genuine japanese instrument and good quality, and the expense....all that for naughtcause as we can clearly see here, alternatives are easily available! My hardware store is but a 5 minute walk from me. Rejoice in the new musical revolution!

p.s.
ever improvifing and evolvinating this instrument knows no bounds. I leave you with two rascals who`ve opted for a less or perhaps more traditional, rice scoop bachi .

Well at least they seem to enjoy it!

Tsugaru Shamisen Level 0?

I kew the existence of scoop shamisen but thought they were actually played with strings.
Since my shamisen skin has been broken and was thinking of make a temporarily played one with a scoop and strings for practice for the time being.
Sorry but there is always a finding on Bachido(^◇^;)

it looks like they enjoy it ^^
hehe

These little shovel expos are quite notorious.
I’ve actually seen them in display cases up in Northern Japan (see: Aomori) displaying what it is all about. Mainly for tourists.
The place I remember specifically seeing one was at a spa/resort where there are live performances of minyou/shamisen. So it was relevant.
I’m recalling that Kevin told me that peope did make their own “shamisen” out of these shovels and with strings. And they also did play with rice scoops. It sort of became it’s own cult and grew into something even bigger.
I for one love it. The Japanese really know how to make fun of themselves sometimes. For a culture that can be so close-minded sometimes, they can do a great job of just going to the extreme in the opposite direction too! So wonderful!

Haha! I love it, funny stuff. Good find Shmoolik.

Florian: LOL!

Had to be done

Haha great stuff Liam!

Ahhh… Scoop shamisen. That brings back memories.

Haha!! Did you make that, Liam?

Ha! Yep

haha weird but quite entertaining…wonder how well they would play the actual shamisen, they seem to have a great bachi skills…

How to have fun—just straight up fun!—with a shovel and a spoon. …A shovel and a frickin’ spoon! Awesome!

And you know what? They can really sing too.
