Nitta Masahiro has released his 11th album, Japanese DNA! Most of Nitta san’s albums are filled with enthralling originals and mutli-cultural instrumentation. This time, Nitta san returns to tradition!

With a desire to preserve Japanese tradition for future generations, he plays 11 classic tsugaru folk songs in this album. Just him and his tsugaru shamisen. I love it how he mentions the problem I have with traditional shamisen songs as mentioned in my thread about how long a song should be. 2 minutes is a lot of time, and it’s definately enough to express something with one instrument!

That’s true. However, he is sticking close to the traditional melody. If you had enough dynamic and variety to last longer than 2 minutes, there’s no reason for it not to be, I think.

Right, shipping costs from a CD is almost as expensive as most albums! I’ll ask Nitta san if he’ll grant me permission to put it on CDBaby (it may get more complex being that it’s his content and not mine, but I guess that’s just a matter of an extra signature of approval or something.)
