Kinds of Shamisen

Hi everybody,

I want to suggest a report here at Bachido.com that would be interesting I think. Could someone write an article about the different kinds of Shamisen, like Jiuta x Nagauta x Minyo x Sanshin (yeah,I know it´s not really a shamisen…).

I was looking for a Tsugaru but when I was in Tokyo I played many different Shamisen at the shop and got a good deal for a minyo, which I bought. But is hard to find information in english on the web…

All the best, Anderson

Hi Anderson!

Have you checked out this page? - http://bachido.com/learn/basic/shamisen-styles

Though not much is mentioned about minyo, it might be of help to determine what kind of shamisen you want.

Cheers!
Kyle

Now I did  Thanks Kyle.
My Shamisen is minyo and the guy at the shop told me is the closest model to a tsugaru. Appart from the thick neck and string gauge , do you think there’s a big difference?

Besides the size and skin thickness, there’s not much difference. (Well, that’s actually true for all shamisen  ) Tsugaru pieces can be played on a minyo shamisen.
