Here at Bachido HQ (Bachido.com!) I’ve been recently getting into playing old time songs on the shamisen. Slowly but surely getting comfortable singing and playing at the same time.

I’m impressed, Kyle! Singing with a fretless instrument is difficult enough, but adapting those banjo licks to the shamisen and bachi is quite a feat! I hope I’ll hear more from you!
I second that, Brett. The Olde TImey stuff you’re doing on shamisen sounds great, Kyle. It’s like the old Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup commercial - “two great tastes that taste great together”.

Brett & Gerry: Thanks! Yeah, I used to think the shamisen couldn’t really be used to solely accompany singing, but only recently did things click in my brain where it’s starting to become possible.
I’m really stoked about it. Old time songs were my very favorite when I was younger (13~16 years old). I’ve always loved them but haven’t played them since getting into shamisen. At last, I can combine the two! Indeed, two great tastes that taste great together!
