Soran Bushi is a traditional sea shanty performed with koto and shamisen. Here is the standard version:

theres an interesting modern story that goes along with the song, kind of like ‘stand and deliver’ meets ‘a chorus line’ meets ‘the mighty ducks’. here is a link that explains it

thanks anyway! with some more experience i think i can get some of it by ear, and the flute solo is nice to practice to.

Nice! I’m going to make some upgrades for the composer as soon as I get the time. Keyboard navigation and showing the measures that aren’t used yet with a faint line will be added.

Thanks for posting that, Bryan, though I think I just exceeded my daily allowance for schmaltz.
Somewhere in my pile of old 78s there’s a big band dance number called Soran Rumba, so they’ve been fooling around with new arrangements of folk songs for a long time. David W. Hughes wrote a paper about different pop arrangements of Soran Bushi over the years, for anyone that’s interested in this sort of thing.
