What do you guys use to clean your shamisen and keep the wood lustrous? Is there anything I should be doing with the skin to keep it clean? I usually just wipe it down periodically with a cloth. I wasn’t sure if there was more to be done.

I honestly just use the saofuki and wipe it down like you do. Works for me!
Saofuki after and before use.
Keep it in a case when not in use.
Sounds good. What is the typical saofuki made of by the way? Is it like microfiber?
Fairly simple maintenance.
Wash hands before playing to avoid oil and fat build up on the sao. Wipe down after playing.
Some Japanese use a spray sometimes on the sao and then wipe it down beforehand. I’ve never done this.
Store in the case with a bag to shield it against mlosture and temperature variations.
I had a skin last 11 years before changing it with careful consideration to storage between uses. But by no means did I baby it.
