I have a shell from a box turtle I found when I was a kid. I wonder if it could be used to make a bachi. Has anyone tried something like this? My main concern with using it is that because the shell is rather small and more of a dome than flat that it wouldn’t work well. What do you think?

I cannot comment on this in more than passing, but I might point out this:
This kind of bachi uses bekkou or zouge on just the tips of the blade.

Thanks for posting that pic. I have seen bachi like that but forgot about them. I think that style would be much more possible to make with the shell I have.
