MCM Expo London 2012

Some of you know i’ve been talking about this a few times so i thought a mini review might be of slight interest.

This was an event that REALLY needs some more JAPAN injected into it.

I was very dissapointed in the showing for the JapanEx side of the weekend. It consisted mostly of wagashi, shaved ice, cute goods and japanese brands of sweets. The Taiko drummers didn’t appear as i expected, but the London Origami group were there in force with a large hands on table to play with.

There was a tiny stage area with cosplay events, kareoki and annoying para para girls to round off the japanese corner.

I spent a small amount of time indulging in my kimono habit and bought an obijime and a cream obiage so i can finally get one of my kimono ready to wear. She was a lovely lady and if you want to take a look she is StrawberryKimono on Facebook.

It was dissapointing on the culture front but i had a great time cosplaying even though i was amongst the most people i’ve ever been with in my LIFE.

Maybe the previous japan fest overshadowed the smaller corner of MCM, but they seriously need some shamisen players, even if it’s only to sit outside for an informal meet and play a bit.

That’s a shame. :frowning: I wonder why so much music was taken out. Did they just pipe in JPop instead?

By ‘Para para girls’, you mean the ones who look overly tanned and hang around Shibuya a little too much?

It’s good that it was at least a good time, despite the musical side was not that culturally satisfying. :slight_smile:

I wonder if Hibiki thought about playing there with his group?

i handed out a couple of flyers, mostly to stall holders who i knew were more interested than some of the attendee’s.

The sheer volume of noise was incredible, canned jpop, some jrock (thank goodness), the para para girls jumping about to high pitched noise in skirts more like headbands.

But yes, the more cultural side was a bit dissapointing as the first time they ran it years ago there was so much more.

I have an itch to contact the organisers about it XDD

Me and Cana were there too ^^ I agree the amount of people this time was huge x.x Alot bigger than May’s~

Sorry D= Might be my fault ^^;;; We came back from our anniversary last week and he’s been here since then =o When hes back today I shall bring him back on x3

Yeah the sheer amount of people i could have walked past my mother and missed her XD
Hope you guys had a good time though and didn’t get too cold in that wind!

<3 we diiid it was awesome, it was cold but we went up a mountain and played on a swingset layying about and then swung on some zipline thing o.O it was awesome… but we did loads more ^^
