I had this idea. Bachido should plan some kind of Tsugaru Shamisen meet-up, where all the members can play shamisen together. I live near Los Angeles btw.

I think this is a great idea. I live in the UK but have long thought about taking a trip across the pond to meet (and learn from) fellow musicians.
For me at least, it’s still a long-term idea. I still have to get my hands on a shamisen and I’d still like to meet with some players in this country first.
Realistically I would have to wait until next year (I need to get my shamisen chops together as well as air fare!).
You guy’s in the states who live close by one another should definitely get together.
Once Kyle’s plan’s for world domination are fully realised I think a gathering of shamisen players from across the globe would be truly awesome (and probably terrifying)!

That’s what the Your Local Network is for. It’s meant for people like you to connect with other shamisen players in their area, should they want to play music together.
Granted, some members haven’t entered their location on the network, but this is still new. It will grow over time, and you will find more people in your area.
That is a great idea about having a big shamisen meet-up. Actually, Masahiro and I had an idea about having a Bachido festival in Hokkaido. It would be a shamisen festival meant for foreigners (though Japanese would be welcome too, of course), complete with workshops with professional shamisen players/stars. It’s just an idea, and may be two years before it happens.
Give me a couch to sleep on, and ill fly right out there, lol.
We incidentally had a little meet up a while back at Kyles place. Would be awesome to have something annual, even if its just the people on the West Coast that could attend.
About four years ago we had about 10 places from around the country and Japan as well all together in Santa Cruz; that’s the best i know of out here so far.
I’m definitely looking forward for having an annual meet up in the future. I want to play with other shamisen players so i can see the differences in technique and learn from them!
