Hi there
A minyo shamisen will soon be sent to me from Japan. Before it is shipped, have you any idea about the strings I should buy ? Nagauta set, Tsugaru set, something else ? All tips are welcome. Thank you in advance.

I don’t know if it is the same strings or not, sorry.
Hmm… I would say strings for jiuta/nagauta shamisen would be good. I’m sure tsugaru strings would be fine too, but if the itomaki are thinner, the thick ichi no ito might not fit inside the itomaki hole.
When you receive it, please take a picture and show us what it looks like!
Thanks for the answers.
Kyle, I bought it myself before I leave Japan. I can’t remember exactly the itomaki holes size, but the itomaki are, let’s say, “medium size” between nagauta and tsugaru. is this an indication ?
Ah, I see. Perhaps Jiuta strings would be the best bet, but I think nagauta silk ichi no ito with tetron/nylon ni no ito and san no ito would be just fine.
Thanks Kyle. I just found that Kameya proposes jiuta and minyou strings (there is a huge difference for the ichi no ito gauge, isn’t it ?)
