Hey guys,
I finally put up a shamisen vid on YouTube. It’s been a couple weeks since I last practiced, so I’m a little rusty, but I think I did an okay job. Check it out and tell me what you think!

Nice!! Did you learn by ear? I like the extra ornaments Looking forward to more videos
Thanks! I learned the basic song from the tabs in Kyle’s book, but I got a lot of the ornamental stuff from listening to the Yoshida Brothers’ version on their Hishou album. I’m still getting used to playing in front of the camera, lol. I never seem to play as well when I record it, but everyone says that lol
That was really good!
i was first listening like… that doesn’t sound the same as in the book didn’t realize first the ornaments
Great to see that there are so many good or talented players in bachido!
Nice playing Denver! For some reason I expected a song about apples to sound upbeat but that has a real lonesome and melancholy quality to it.
The writer of Ringo Bushi probably found a worm in his apple which bummed him out when writing it.
I recon Isaac Newton wrote it really
hehe : >D On a more serious note, isn’t the prefecture of Aomori known for its quality apples?
Yes, that’s right. Aomori is famous for its quality AND its quantity of apples! ( The most produced in Japan! )
I enjoyed that Denver. Nicely done.
Man, that was awesome!! Your ornamentations are especially great. I can’t wait for the next one!
Aomori has the largest and most delicious apples in the world. Seriously. Every year in Hirosaki, I practically push people out of my way to get to the farmers selling their fresh squeezed juice. Mmm
Thanks Grant! I’m really glad you liked it, that definitely means a lot coming from you. Lol, so that’s why it’s called ringo bushi, I’ve been wondering about that for a long time. If I’m ever in Japan, I’ll definitely have to try some Aomori apples.
And thanks Raymond! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
You’re welcome Denver, but you’re the one who’s doing all the work :P. I hope we can get together and compare our Ringo Bushi notes soon.
There’s so many apple related goodies and foods in Aomori, it’s almost absurd up there.
Nice job Denver!!! I love your playing!
Wow, thank you so much Kevin! Being self-taught, everything I’ve learned has either been from Kyle’s book or from y’alls YouTube videos. I’m still trying to get a good feel of the bachi dynamics like you have in your Ringo Bushi. Plus that Chikuzan bit at the end where you use the back of the bachi. Thanks again, I’ve been watching your videos for years and you’ve been a huge inspiration for my playing.
