I just got my Shamisen today. Yeah! and I think its Naguate Shamisen. I’m not sure but I’ve been playing it for a while and it buzzes a lot on the strings.
Is that the koma that could be the problem or the strings? The Koma I have looks plastic it doesn’t have anything fancy.
One thing you can see is if you have placed the koma 180 degrees wrong. I tend to do this sometimes by mistake and that causes bad sound. The koma should have a larger notch for the thick string and then it gets smaller for the second and third.
I can’t really tell with this koma - the notch look the same size. Should I loosen the strings back and forth and change the position of the koma - would that might work?
If it`s the koma you can always file it down yourself. Yes, obviously file the notch for ichi no ito a little larger than the others. Probably leave the san no ito notch alone.
But you are talking about Buzzing? Do you by chance mean the sawari (the natural buzzing of the Shamisen?) I don`t know (???) but if you are talking about sawari buzzing that can be adjusted too very easily.
By the way, are you ready for the Ac/Dc tabs yet?
for some reason every time I hold the strings and release it - it happens to create an extra sound. which sometimes breaks my concentration. I’m not sure if that’s normal. (Kevin Kmetz) maybe I should take a picture of my Shamisen and maybe you can see (aka the koma and etc.) when I practice the -Hajiki- it seems my strings create an extra sound bounce when I release the string and continue to play another.
And yes I want the AC/DC tabs (my mom has not set up the fax machine - so I’ll ask my friends (let me call him)

haha. yes well hopefully I will finish up a yoshida brother tune (Kodo) transcription and have Kyle shnazz it up for this site! I dont know about the AC/DC tunes since they arent really “Tsugaru” . . . . .but at least those I will fax to you (Kevin H.)
