Nagauta Chuzao Shamisen for Sale

Hi Gang,

I’ve recently purchased an updated shamisen so my first one is up for sale.

I purchased this Nagauta Chuzao from Takashi Koto of the Boston Koto Academy. This is an excellent example of a practice-quality shamisen. The sao is made of Rosewood. The dou was replaced just before I purchased it.

This is NOT a cheap Chinese knock-off as you see so often on eBay NOR one that has a ripped dou and sells for about $300 when everyone knows it will cost you $400-$500 to replace the skin. Not much of a bargain.

It will come with two bachis (one is a Min’yo), a bachi edge protector, a plastic Jiuta koma (bridge), doukake, yubikake, neo, washi fukoro (paper bag), used dou fukoro (half bag), and bachi case.

The price is $500 plus shipping. Sorry, but the quality of this instrument and the included accessories is such that I can’t negotiate on the price. Compared to the junk that you see out there, this is a genuine bargain.

Please email me at doctor1968@att.net and I will send you complete pictures.

Contact me if you have any questions.

Nice shamisen Gary!

Also did we ever find out what type of shamisen my bachi is for? Its the longest Ive seen so far… are minyo bachi long?

Probably Jiuta. They are pretty long and wide. The plastic Jiuta bachi I have is 9 in long, 5 in wide at the blade. Weighs about 7.5 oz. The Jiuta bekko bachi I just acquired is slightly shorter in length but weighs a bit more.

Minyo are usually shorter than Jiuta. My wood Minyo bachi is quite a bit smaller than the Jiuta.

Right, I think. Minyo bachi is bigger than nagauta but smaller than jiuta (the heaviest of all).
Cana, I think your bachi is probably in accordance with your minyo shamisen.

interesting  from garys description I would say it was a juita bachi as it is 9 inches and roughly 3-5 inches on the blade. Quite heavy and hard to bend at all on the blade itself.

Either way I couldn’t really picture myself getting a different bachi  it feels like its kinda meant to be in my hand and on my shamisen.

Can you upload a picture, Cana ?

It looks like a mixed one… Gerry probably could help… Anyway it is probably useless to try to classify everything…

Sorry to deviate off topic, Gary. Good luck for your sale.

From what Gerry told me, It might be for more of a delicate style playing ( which makes me think こもりうた which is what my shamisen and playing styles tend to aim towards

Good luck with the sale!

Nice shamisen ! You should post photos on bachido. thanks for your mail !
