~New Here~

Hey Everybody!
I’m new here, but I’m not new to Shamisen, I’ve heard it before and played one when I was little (I was horrible at it but I was only 8 and didn’t know what I was doing)… Anyway I just got re-interested in it and stumbled across this website. I bought Kyle’s book for the plans, because I am a woodworker (almost by trade) , I do art shows sometimes. Anyway I wanted to build one, because it’s cheaper for me to do that then buy one right off.

Anyway I look forward to chatting with you all! I’m off to lurk through the forum now…

Welcome! If you are a woodworker almost by trade you should have a great time creating one on your own. Make sure to check out the Bachido Blogcast videos as Kyle shows when he is working on his latest creation.

Hey man! im brand new here too! i gotta order kyle’s book soon. i need that thing. i would also like to make my own shamisen one day, however, that wont be for a while. but anyways. uh Hi! haha

Welcome you too  We need even more people showing off their creations and shamisen playing on the forums so don’t hesitate!

Welcome the both of you
Good luck the both of you in making and playing your shamisens ^.^

Greetings and welcome, Chris & Cristian.

Welcome to Bachido both of you. Good to hear from people interested in building their own Shami. Please join in the discussions whenever you feel like it. This site offers a great opportunity to share interests and info so we all appreciate any new perspective anyone has to offer.

Thanks everyone! I’ll be sure to share what I’m up to, just gotta get the book in, which should be here by Friday

Might as well make my “big debut” over here as this thread is perfect for the purpose. So hi guys, my name’s Niki and I’m from Finland. Umm, quite new to shamisen (though played it for bit during my exchange year in Japan couple of years ago, but that hardly counts, trust me.:D). Umm, still have to order Kyle’s book, but I’m definitely getting it. And I already have a tsugaru shamisen I ordered from Shamisen Katou (couldn’t resist the summer sale they had). So, I guess this is the part where I say “pleased to meet you”.

Hey guys! welcome to bachido

hi everyone, welcome here : )

Welcome Niki! You should hook up with Ortjo and do some collaboration once you get your shamisen.

Welcome. I just ate pie.

Hi all of you new comers! I’m just a couple of months old here and with my shamisen experience too!
Cool to see that the community is growing all the time!

Niki: Where in Finland do you live? I live in Linköping, Sweden and my mother is from Kuusamo, so I have finnish as my second mother language. Would be awesome to meet up some time! It’s not so far between our countries.
When did you visit Japan, any plans of going again?

Welcome to the people that posted in my topic! I also just got my book in today! and a cheapy cheapy shamisen I got of Ebay will be sitting at home when I get there.

Thanks guys.
Karl: Yeah that’d be awesome but first have to practice a lot so that I get some confidence.
Anne: I live in Vantaa, right next to Helsinki actually. Ah that’s wonderful! And yeah, Finland and Sweden are quite close to each other so it’s not that difficult to meet up with people. Umm, I was on exchange from 2010 to 2011 and after that I’ve visited Japan once. :stuck_out_tongue: Yes, I just love Japan. Definitely have to go there again (maybe when the prices of the tickets go down a bit.) Was actually hoping to go in August, but didn’t find any good sale prices so I guess that’s just wishful thinking. :frowning:

Niki: Oh you should just hook up with anyone who is willing to play with you! The more you play and interact, the more you learn!
Me and Karl are meeting up this weekend, and I’m just starting to get a hang of the rhythm and finding the tunes, but I think we both can learn from each other by just playing and experimenting!

I wish you luck with your trip to Japan! It would be awesome to go again, I came home at the end of May and I already start feeling Japan-sick again.
It’s a wonderful country in all it’s strangeness, love it!

We should start planning a Nordic get-to-gether soon! Maybe in the autumn, in end of October or beginning of November. Just meet up, hang around, play and have fun!

Welcome to Bachido Chris, Niki and Cristian! Great to have you here!

Niki, Definitely meet up with Ortjo, don’t worry about “getting good” first. He’d be stoked to have another buddy to play shamisen with.

Norm: What kind? Azuki?

Got my cheapy cheapy Shamisen today, it was sitting in my room when I got home! I want to get real strings on it but I think it’ll work for now…

I am going to use this to learn as I build my own Shamisen, which I have some red oak leftover that I will use for part of it!

Welcome you two! I’m loving all of the Scandinavians joining up!
Can we say Viking Taikai? Ohhhhh yeeaaah!
I’m really interested to see other people’s homemade shamisen from Kyle’s book. So far I have only really seen his, and I am interested to see what all you other crafty people come up with.
