Newbie alert! Hello from Australia :)

Hi there!

After stalking the forums for the past few weeks, and my epic husband/family ordering me the Beginner’s Shamisen (best Christmas present ever), I thought I should say hello!

I’m from around Sydney, Australia and have been wanting to play the Shamisen since I first started studying Japanese in high school/university over 10 years ago and fell completely in love with Japan. Bachido is making this dream a reality for me, so I’m very grateful! I’m a classically-trained violist and violinist, so am really looking forward to seeing the differences and similarities between these instruments and the Shamisen.

Since graduating from university, my Japanese language skills have unfortunately become very rusty, so I’m hoping that in learning the Shamisen, it will also encourage me to revive my language-learning skills.

Anyway, enough chatter from me: I’m really looking forward to chatting with you all on the forums about the Shamisen, music, culture and much more! Hopefully see you all at a ShamiCamp in the near-future

Rachel

PS - if anyone knows of a Shamisen teacher in the Sydney region, please let me know! Otherwise, I’ll be happily learning through the online lessons

w…elcome . . .

The Shamisen master Noriko Tadano used to be in Australia . Not sure if she still is or not but you might want to try a search for her.

Thanks!

And thanks so much Kevin! I’ll try and see if I can get in touch with Noriko

Hi there,
Noriko is my teacher, unfortunately she’s in Melbourne Rachel.

Hi Sakura!

Thanks so much for letting me know

Hey Kevin! I’ve been in touch with Noriko about having ShamiCamp in Australia. If the universes align, we just might have it in November 2016! Finger’s crossed!

Could she teach us how to play shamisen 300+ bpm?

Welcome Rachel, always nice to see another Australian! I’m in Parkes so opportunities to meet other players are a bit limited. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hopefully there is enough here, Shamicamp Australia needs to happen!

Thanks David! I think you’re actually the closest Australian member location-wise to me, haha

I’m definitely would do a road-trip down to Melbourne if a Shamicamp Australia was on the cards

Nice to meet you!
