Oh no! Broken bachi!? No replacement!? No worries!

Start the video at 1:00 to see the relevant portions … but the whole video is awesome, as are ALL their videos. (Sure wish I could find video of Tao Taiko playing Funny Shamisen as well, but I can’t. And they didn’t even include it on their concert DVD.) sad face

Enjoy.

Lorraine, that was amazing and hilarious. Thank you for sharing~!!

Kyle, I think we need to come up with some crazy things like this to bust out in workshops/busking.

I definitely think that baby dolls should be offered in the Bachi Section of the Bachido store!

Also, I should give Allessandro the credit for introducing me to the SeShami Street Boys - he posted the first video on Facebook, and then I found their YouTube channel.

Later edit: Hahaha, just found a video of them playing with a banana! (And eating it at the same time).

I have seen this video before it was great. I’m happy to see it popping up in the bachido forum. I watched another one of their videos that was also hilarious. You should watch it if you have not seen it.

I’m a total fan of these guys now, and yes, have cyberstalked them down to their Facebook pages, lol. (Not that I can read them …)

They play all over, Seattle, Washington D.C., everywhere! Hope to catch them in the States sometime.

I used to play coffee houses in Ann Arbor with my pal Gene - our finale involved facing away from the audience and playing our guitars behind our heads, which, if you are a guitarist, is not at all hard to do at all. But the crowds went wild. The Bunraku troop that played Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley had a wildly histrionic shamisen player - he was as much a puppet as the ones telling the story. Showmanship is important - how can folks expect to enjoy your music if you aren’t?

So true, Tomo! I’m ALL about the “bling” in the show, hahahaha (to the chagrin of some of the other members of our taiko group)!

Very true words, Tomo! In my opinion, showmanship is even more important than musical skill. (To a point, of course)
A few years ago, The Abbott Brothers (a honky tonk group which my brother and I play in) did a local gig at a restaurant. Part way through the show, a local 16 year old boy we know wanted to join in on violin, and we heartily invited him on stage. Simply put, he was an amazing violinist. He had an incredible amount of skill and speed with the instrument, and great tone. The only thing was, he was completely stone-faced. After the show, another friend told us, “He’s a great player, but we can’t tell if he’s having fun or not…”

Thus, I really feel that you don’t have to be a great musician to be a great performer. Most importantly, happiness is contagious. Even though you’re having an ‘off-day’ with the bachi, if you’re enjoying yourself on stage, that great feeling will spread to the crowds. A great time for everyone!
