putting the strings into the Shamisen

I found this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVcUR-qP_0M&feature=player_embedded#!

from the beginning part to (2:50-3:06) it shows a diagram.

Now I watch Kyle’s video on how to set the strings into the correct Itomaki(s)

Why is that this lady in the video does it different?

Also on eBay - some Shamisen Sellers do the same thing (as the lady showed)

I’m confused which is the right way. I think it’s Kyle is because on youtube when Shamisen performers tune the instrument. The strings are like Kyle’s introduction to the strings

I think Kyle says in that video that how you string depends on where the hole on your itomaki is. My understanding is that on a Tsugaru shamisen its usually like this:

(Le poorly drawn itomaki)

ichi no ito -----
-----san no ito
ni no ito -----

I understand for the Tsugaru style on stringing - but

What about for those players that Have Nagauta Shamisen

  • why is that in the video the lady does it differently. I’m so confused on which style stringing I should use

switch the san and ni that’s how I string my nagauta works fine

I’m not familiar with the San and Ni sorry (it you could say big, middle, thin string) that would help. Plus I’m still confuse with placing the Itomaki in the correct spot. I wish somebody could see my - Shamisen Itomaki

Thanks for buying my Bekko Bachi - you helped me get my new better Shamisen

no problem I needed a better one
