Rokudan (Shamisen)???

I looked at the note sheet and there’s a lot of hajiki and some other symbol I’m not familiar with. Unless I’m reading it wrong.

I just memorize the whole piece of “Kuroishi Yosare Bushi” and I can almost play it fast. Just on the part where the Hijiki is in the middle string of the song (I still need work on) but I can Hijiki on the last string easier of the song.

My next song I want to do is “Rokudan” I’m not sure if that is a little bit hard for my level. I’ve only been playing the Shamisen for 5days.

I tried watching the Rokudan on the (slow) the part confuses me is after you see the suri with a bunch of other stuff. Wish Kyle could make another video like when he first teaches the first song. but with Rokudan.

Having a hard time reading the notation on Rokudan. I don’t have the book “Shamisen of Japan” is there some other technique that’s in the book that is not explained in the lesson videos. I feel kinda slow not being able to play any other songs (then again I just been playing the Shamisen for 3days)

Hi Kevin,

Though Rokudan is considered a basic song, it’s actually pretty challenging, as it has all the basic techniques. (Can be an overload for someone just starting)

Rokudan does have one technique not shown in Kuroishi Yosare, which is the upstroke (sukui). Again, Rokudan is a very difficult piece if you’ve only been playing a few days. Pieces like Kuroishi Yosare, Ringo Bushi and Sakura are great songs to begin on.

I definitely should make a longer learning video for Rokudan. I have plans for doing that, and will hopefully get started on it later this year.

Thank you (Kyle A.) if you do plan to make a learning video on “Rokudan” can you do it similar to Kuroishi Yosare (with separated sections, with the notes on the bottom) I really thought that learning style was easier.

You should put Lesson 3 “Rokudan”

One more thing Kyle - when you first learn to play the Shamisen (let say within a week) did you memorize/played more than one song?

I’m confused with one part in the song. I pretty much got some of the concept.

BUT. . . on part of the song (play {6} on the top string and “with the 3rd finger” and next is {6} top string again but with a “Hajiki”

my figure got messed up. so I just played with the 3rd finger.

and couple of other parts does the same thing it goes to III (finger) and Hajiki on the same string. It’s really confusing.

Oh yes. I definitely plan on making Rokudan the same way as Kuroishi Yosare Bushi. I was very happy with how the format turned out (notation on the bottom with separate sections 'n such)

Yeah, I played several songs, pieces that I knew well. Sakura, Kuro Kami (which is a Jiuta piece). I didn’t play Rokudan until a year or two later. (Not saying you can’t try Rokudan, but expect it will be hard at first) I think Minyo is easier for beginners than standard Tsugaru pieces, at least in the beginning.

Which song are you referring to? Rokudan? And which measure?

Yes on Rokudan - about the last part of the song - 4, 3(hajiki), 0, 0(hajiki) 6( 3finger), 6(some symbol), 6, 4( 3finger)

my fingers get all mess up with 6-6-6-4 there a “hajiki” and one of the 6notes has III (play with the 3rd finger

Ah, I see where you mean. However, there isn’t any hajiki on 6-6-6-4.

oh okay. Is that symbol mean you strike it with the bachi but from the upwards instead of downwards?

Yes, that’s what that symbol means.

Not to hawk my own wares, but as long as you’re learning from the preview pages of the book, you might as well just purchase the whole thing. I guarantee that you will learn a lot and it will benefit your shamisen playing.

Anywho, just a suggestion.

I was just waiting for the PayPal to go through. I just purchased it today.

Ah, great. Thanks Kevin! I’ll send it out today.

to bad you can’t sign it LOL

Already did, man.

Peace.

Had to reopen the package, but got it done. You caught me just in time, as I’m about to go to the post office!

oh wow - Thank you so much. I can’t wait to learn more songs.

I actually want to later on play some song from certain Anime. (with enough practice and good hearing)

I love the Shamisen parts in the song. LOL
