Hi, I’m trying to get that nice sawari buzz on my practice shamisen and I was wondering how deep/wide the notch under the ichi no ito should be. I know I can use tape but I’d like a permanent solution. Does anyone know the specifics?
there wont be a one size fits all notch depth. Best to just go very slowly with a thin rat-tail file.

I agree with Ian. It varies depending on the thickness of the string and neck angle. Best to file verrrrry slowly with very short strokes of a fine file. Check after every stroke, because getting the best/longest buzz can often be the difference of a fraction of a millimetre.
