I saw an interesting picture of what appeared to be a Shamisen style arcade game while researching the other day and just thought that I might share it with those who may be interested.
Far out
Haha! That looks Awesome! I would like to challenge Kyle Abbott to that game!
:). This makes me very happy.
Looks like it’s called “Shamisen Brothers”. I dug around and it’s a pretty rare machine based on Namco’s engine for rhythm games. I wonder how difficult it would be to track down a PCB (arcade board) or MAME ROM for this? Found a manual for the arcade cabinet below.
I found that same game in Hokkaido and posted it on this forum like a year ago haha thats awesome
So far as I know, there’s only two fully operational Shamisen Brothers in the US. A friend of mine owns one of them, and makes it available for play at TempleCon (Rhode Island retro gaming convention) each year. If you haven’t been to TempleCon, it’s pretty nifty. He sets up 50 to 80 refurbished coin ops in a ballroom, all free to play for convention goers. Rest of convention is a mix of steampunk cosplay, board, miniature, and card gaming, live music, plus random other bits of fandom and geekery. TempleCon 'dot org.
Omg we are in need of a field trip
Oh, hope it would be compatible with screen reader
