Hey, random thing I thought about the other day, but does anyone know of any musical notation systems for writing non-Japanese music for shamisen? I mean, aside from, say, Western notes and staves. I’ve been playing around with the piece “Dual” from the Yoshida Brothers’ “Hishou” album, and it’s got a strong Celtic influence and therefore doesn’t use the usual positions for Japanese music. I realized that unlike, say, “Kodo,” which we’ve got a great set of tabs for (thanks again, guys!), I don’t know how I would share the fingering I’ve come up with for this non-Japanese piece. All you guys who play non-Japanese music on shamisen, have you come up with a separate numbering system for those non-standard positions, or do you just say “3#” and “9b” and so forth?
Come to think of it, I remember back when I was using number stickers there were a lot of positions I never seemed to use much. Maybe those already cover everything?
