Here’s the basic breakdown: The first guy is the Okinawan sanshin, and the second guy is the Chinese sanxian. They go on about how they’re brothers and how similar they are, they trade gifts and so on. Suddenly the third guy comes in asking “Is this the home of the sanshin?” When the sanshin answers yes, the third guy, who turns out to be the Japanese shamisen, breaks down in tears and says “Brother! I’ve found you!” Same deal for the Chinese sanxian.
At first, though, the sanshin and the sanxian are all “‘Brother?’ Who are you? You don’t look or sound anything like us!” But after some convincing, they finally accept the shamisen as their younger brother, and hooray hurrah and all that.
As for the particulars, I got lost on some of it cuz the sanshin speaks pretty thick Okinawan some of the time. Sooooo…
