I think most songs are niagari - anyway it is the tuning I usually have on my thing and as for the book the tuning used for a song is mentioned on the notation page for each song so bachi on . . .

I believe most tsugaru is tuned to C. Most jiuta songs are in D. I am not sure about minyo but I think C is common for that too.

Congratulations, Luca!

We used to tune our nagauta shamisen (which we used for jiuta pieces) to C in order to play it along with shakuhachi. (Not that we really knew what we were doing.) How is a standard shakuhachi following notation played with the shamisen if it’s tuned to D?

I don’t have a lot of info on the shakuhachi. However what I have is that for yachiyojishi the shamisen is tuned DGD and the notation I have is the shakuhachi plays re (G). For kurokami the shamisen is tuned DGC and the shakuhachi plays in G.

Ooooh, I see! I guess I’ve always been thinking of the san no ito’s C.

Oh ok thank you!!
