Single Neo

So I was looking at pictures of shamisens and was thinking, you have a neo with 3 parts for the 3 different strings and then they lead on to the koma, but is it possible to get a neo with a single part in which all three strings are attached, which leads onto a primary koma to seperate the strings and then leads onto the typical koma further down~

How would this affect playing and would it be possible? :o

Curious question awaaaaaaay!

are you sharing my pain of not being able to tie a common neo or would you actually prefer a construction like that?

I have yet to try :3 but was just curious about it ~^.^~

whoah talk about forum activity coming in waves I am online here and even though I only started drinking whiskey (I bought a bottle because it seemed a throat infection came up earlier today) I hardly manage to keep up as for the past hour

a single loop would be an idea as for me though I will wait for the neo for dummies course cause I like also the look of the regular one and once I got the concept down I already know this would be the perfect pastime for taxi waiting times . . .

D: I’m ill too x3x caught it from work  So alchohol work hmmmmm >3> Too the Baileys! XD

or the coralins

actually that last image (or link for some reason) above is probably the first “drink responsibly” ad that struck me as awesome and in its simplicity no less . . . also I like both jack daniel’s and taxi . . . a regular customer bought a bottle of 96% percent alcohol at the pharmacy today for her own spirits brewing (WTF) I joked about she should offer a splash for my coffee of course . . .

cheers to good recoveries then . . .

I’ve drunk 96% polish (Or maybe russian… Not sure >.>) vodka. We bought it for shot at a house warming type party o3o It felt like your throat was in HD… Iiiiiif that makes any sense x3

But yus  Get better soon!

WTF are you sure? I have no clue but I think the only alcohol of about that percentage I think we had at home once was intended to start the barbecue grill haha

speaking of vodka those russians are cool though I don’t know if they actually drink their native spirit like others drink wine or beer but when I worked at the highway toll station during school and college holidays which I did for several years (very good pay) once a huge and lots of wheelers truck driver came along and did not have enough money to pay the toll (this was actually happening at a lonely toll station at a minor alternative exit of the highway one would sometimes be assigned to be on duty there) so he was eligible for a free return trip through the highway tunnels in the opposite direction only that while turning around he actually managed to scrape the steel bumpers along the toll booth and offered a bottle of vodka for compensation . . . an originally sealed bottle of . . .

well how nice of him I thought and was accepting this demonstration of good will (after all the paint left on the bumpers was truly negligible and completed the colors of the rainbow along with others already there) and also it was a difficult turn and he did not seem to have drunk vodka himself earlier so I let him continue driving along his way without alerting anyone about that incident

It seems I’m too late to answer this question before it went off the rails onto another track.

To answer your question, it’s actually one single piece of cord.

It’s never too late for an answer  Oooo this was the idea I had =o

@ Kyle wasn’t this the old vid I - even in combination with THE book - did not manage to make sense of? I guess I struggled with geometric drawings and 3D imagination already in high school for good reasons . . .

so . . . PLEASE . . . do a talk through multi angle premium course for 5 bucks about the neo . . . I would even accept you mentioning fools like me in whatever attached bonus features about it

I’d be worried that the ito knots just wouldn’t hold for a single loop. It can be hard enough to get them to stay in place with their own loops.

BH practice makes perfect. Once you figure it out it will be like tying your own shoes. I found it helps to stick some chopsticks or something through the loops while making the knot so you can keep track of which parts are which.

Hi Jamie

if you look again at your self-drawn picture, there’s certainly a big odd issue going on here: extreme deviation of itos along their axis, and deviation means additional tension here. imho this is unwanted/unnecessary in terms of physical/mechanical strain.
Then you mention a 2nd koma, which surely would dampen the sound/resonation of the skin in comparison with just 1 koma.
What do you guys here on the forum think?

Cheers
Ale

surely somehing to consider . . . the deviation from a straighter path and added tension and wear probably on the first koma where the strings would be forced into a sharp turn at the notches there including a silk string no less . . . anyway while I am not attracted to this suggested system there is nothing speaking against trying it out Jamie and who knows maybe even a “flaw” could result in something interesting like I think Cana mentioned an additional buzz coming from his homebrew simple koma that he actually enjoys for the sound it makes . . .

as for me I worked hard to get 3 loops at all and keep them as separated as I could coming from what is not a real neo knot  also for another reason I had to use a thinner than usual rope . . . quality rope so seemed to be no problem BUT I noticed that the loops did not stay in loop form when I tried to attach the strings . . . usually you have a sturdier thicker rope to which you attach the very thin strings and the loop stays in loop form whereas my loops got twisted out of shape and it was a mess when trying to attach the strings . . . so and even though I would have understood how to attach the strings the prefered way I eventually had to attach them with granny knots to keep the loops in their shape . . .
